Just checked over at FM and apparently 2 guys have rented lens, received them and are, so far, quite happy. Interesting. Hope this really turns out good.

They will expect you to buy the lens from them at replacement cost and take it up with the shipping company yourself. And the shipping company will tell you that if the box is not visibly and severely damaged, then the condition of what's inside is a question of how well it was packed, not how well they treated it, and therefore not their problem.

Rick "who thinks this is risky even without any shadiness" Denney

Exactly.

I'd rather go spend the money to buy the lens, than to pay to rent it... have it broken in transit (or blamed on me somehow)... only to have to pay for it anyway. Then I'm out the money, and a lens. If I buy it upfront, I'm just out the money. :p

You all... the person only ships insured... if anyone is taking a chance here, it is the owner of this business. You pay him $70 and he ships you a thousand dollar lens... out of state.... without a deposit. I have a credit card specialy setup for stuff like this so fraud is not an issue.... I'll give him a try next time I need a lens I don't have for a shoot. Unfortunately they don't many exotic lenses.... but I like the idea. Adorama requires a full replacement deposite.... and on a 400 f2.8 - that is a chunck of change.
