Amazing picture! Great details, prop blurred, exhaust stains along side, even powder redidue around the machine gun ports, the look on the pilot's face.....just awesome!
Thanks for sharing,

It is so hard to make flight shots against a plain blue sky look dynamic but you have got a winner here. Are there many of these vintage aircraft still standing? I know the Mustang was used in Europe in WWII was the Wildcat also?

Just another great shot! (Ho,hum!) ;)

I know the Mustang was used in Europe in WWII was the Wildcat also?

I think they were all in the Pacific theater of operations?

Thank you! That's my goal with my aviation photography, to put you in with the action.

Yes they were. I think they only saw limited action at the begining of the war. They were renamed: Grumman Marlett

I know, not the greatest shot but one of my first attempts with a very slow shutter speed.

Really? For training, or what? Against the Me-109, they might as well have been a "Stringbag".

The first "Martlets" entered service in September 1940, and achieved the first "kill" for any American-built fighter in British service on Christmas day of that year, when a German Ju-88 was forced down near Scapa Flow.
The later British "Martlets" and "Wildcats" were extensively used at sea, primarily based on escort carriers though some were also carried aboard fleet carriers. In addition to anti-submarine work, teamed with "Swordfish" strike aircraft, they participated in amphibious operations in the Mediterranean and Normandy. 21 U-boats lost to Martlet aircraft.

Thanks for the links. I've never heard the name "Martlet" before & didn't consider that the British might have used them on carriers.
