I've been sold on this lens since it came out, but with there being a shortage in the Nikon mount I've had lots of time to think about it. Now I find myself wondering, do I need it? I've got two lenses that both cover the 35mm focal length. Both are sharp, but neither go to 1.4. I do like shooting at 35mm, but is it worth $900 just to be able to shoot at 1.4?

what are your other two ways of getting 35mm? if they're both at f/3.5 .... yeah... 1.4 is totally worth it.

Worrying about lenses is a lot easier than worrying about this game. I'm not excited about the direction we are heading right now, but that's a different story for a different thread.

Last night I shot a no-flash event that required me to shoot my 35 @ 1/50 f1.4 ISO 3200 and my 85 at 1/80 f1.4 ISO 6400.

Try that with a 24-70 and 70-200!

The Sigma 35/1.4 is too good for most Canon cameras. I does well on the 1DS, 5D II and III, not in the lesser ones. I would do much better on the Pentax K5s. The ISO in Pentax is way superior.

It's not a photo until you print it!

I have 35mm covered two ways also in 17-40 (f/4) and 28-75 (f/2.8) yet I will be picking up my S35 from UPS on Monday! The two additional stops of light will come in handy for those dim situations among other things.

It's pretty simple. If you need f1.4 at 35mm, then you need either the Sigma or Canon. If you have to think about whether you need it or not, then you probably don't. Not that that should stop you or anyone else from buying a fast prime. Certainly hasn't stopped me. ;)
