So, I've had my Pixma Pro 9000 II for over a year and finally decided to try and print out a few pics. After ordering some Canon Platinum Pro 13x19 paper, I realized that 13x19 picture frames aren't a standard framing size (Went to several different stores), so I bought a few 12x16 frames.

Anyway....

I cropped my picture to 12x16, and then changed to page size to 12x16 (the paper to 13x19) under the printer settings. However, when I printed the photo, it was off by an inch or so?

I want to try and print something else without having to cut the paper, so I'm curious what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks!

Don't change your paper size in the print driver. Crop the pic to the 12x16 aspect ratio (or you can also get 12x18 frames) and print, but then you will need to "trim" the print. I quickly went for a good solid paper "cutter" for this stuff.

I left the paper size alone but change the page size to 12x16. That way, the printer knew I was using 13x19 page, but the image was 12x16. It still was off but an inch or so.

So you are saying that the print was actually about 11x14 (or so)?

What exactly do you mean by "an inch or so"?

In one dimention, all dimentions or in positioning on the page?

You should not need to change the paper size from what you are actually using.

13 X 19 is A3+ which I use a lot. I generally print at 12" x 16.6", which leaves me with a nice overlap to sit between my mount and the backing board of my A2 frames. Yes, I could trim the paper but I see no reason to do so.

Thanks everyone for the help. I wish I knew exactly how much I had to cut in order for the print to fit into a 12x16 frame. But It definitely didn't print at 12x16. I cropped the picture 12x16 in lightroom and then the only thing I changed in the printer properties was "page size", not paper size to 12x16. If I didn't, it was acting as if I was about to print a 13x19 image. However I used EzPrint (I believe it's called. Not at home) to actually setup the printer properties and then printed it from there.

Its as if It printed a 13x15"? I know that sounds crazy, but I had to trim off about 6" inches on each side of the actual print. And about 3" on the top and bottom of the actual print, not paper.

Headed home now. So, should I just crop another image to 12x16, do nothing in printer properties and just print it regardless of how the image shows up in printer preview and see what happens?

I'm not familiar with EZPrint. You should be able to print directly from Lightroom, although in your print driver you would specify the paper and paper size you are using, but I don't have the Canon printer you have so can't give printer settings specifically. But obviously something in the settings is off. Maybe if you post a screen shot of your Print settings someone with that printer could chime in.

Thanks so much Tony. I will try it now and if it turns south, I'll take screenshots along with shots of the finished print.

OK, Good news. I just remembered that I actually have the first picture I printed. (Had to print again due to color being off. Glad I kept it)

Pics were taken with Iphone.

Here is the image after it printed. (Again cropped at 12x16)

This pic shows the exact size.

So, I cropped another image tonight and then checked the settings in DDP. If you look at the size, it's actually not 12x16? Its off. (It is actually 12.68x16.90)

Yeah, so redo your crop to where it would be 12x16...?

Correct. On that last screen shot, I just changed the image size options to 12x16, printed it, and it came out perfect. But this goes back to my original question. There just has to be some reason as to why a cropped 12x16 image from lighroom, really isn't 12x16?

Thanks again Tony for all your help.

In Lightroom, you are not cropping to dimensions in inches, just either to an "aspect ratio" or specific dimensions in pixels. So, if you cropped to an "aspect ratio" of 12x16, then you could get uncertain results, depending on your print settings. You could print something larger than 12"x16", as you saw, although it could keep the 12:16 aspect ratio. Or, you could end up with a smaller print with the same aspect ratio. The 12x16 a.r. "boils down" to a 3:4 aspect ratio, meaning that you could get a 3"x4" print from the same image!

So, crop to the aspect ratio you want to print at, then in your LR Print module you can lay out the image on the page (which you have specified in your print driver)!

Trying to print in LR drives me nuts. Played with the settings the other day for over an hour to print a borderless 13 x 19, just wouldn't take my input no matter what I entered. I wound up cropping to 13 x 19 saving it as a tiff and printing it in Paintshop Pro. I've had many problems trying to print in LR, I use version 3.6.

Chet, to do borderless printing you need to set your printer driver to print borderless before you open an image in your Print module. You also want to ensure that your crop is the right aspect ratio. Then in the Print module you should get the image properly showing where you can set it with no margins.

If that doesn't work for you, post a screen shot of your print module settings, and tell us specifically what printer you are using.
