Good afternoon.

I am extremely tempted to get the 70-200mm mk ii 2.8 from Digital Rev.

I understand I will not get the Canon cashback...but the VAT is paid and the import+delivery charges.

At £1400...its a good £200 cheaper than the cheapest native UK stock!

The question is...if it breaks (I will insure it ofc) , is it true that you can send it to the Digital Rev office in the UK and they will sort it out (if its a warranty fault)?

So basically...I am asking what are the downfalls of these imports, specifically with Digital Rev?

This is the bit I am referring to. Anyone dealt with this?

Hi fellow Yorkshireman.

I don't think Digitalrev have a UK office. But consider this (external link)aswell. I have had good experiences here and they do have an office in the south.

I've used Hdew Cameras in that link above before and have always been impressed with the service.

I'm about to use Digital Rev for the Sigma 35mm (because Hdew don't have it) and as far as I can tell, you have two options in regards to warranty issues. You can either take the lens to an authorised repair centre and forward the quote/bill to Digital Rev who will refund the cost, or have Digital Rev's courier pick the item up from you which will be sent somewhere, fixed and returned to you.

The second option is more time consuming but less effort on your behalf as you just provide a date and place for their courier to collect the lens and then leave the rest up to them.

Edit: Just realised all of that was explained in the link you provided in your second post!

Small world innit Johnny? About ten minutes from here of course - we were through there yesterday to and from Morrisons. My great aunt lived up Station Road back in the seventies.

On HDEW, I bought my 7D and 5D2 bodies from them and it was an easy process. On both occasions I called them rather than ordering online as I wanted to check stock and I had the cameras within three or four days.

Although you can have problems wherever you go, I've only heard good things about HDEW. I note that the offer is only until tomorrow but it will probably be extended and may even come down some more.

Great choice of lens by the way. I use the f/4 version and couldn't be happier. Good luck and happy shooting!

Johnny you may wish to consider these good folk (external link) who are also offering an extra 5% discount if payment is made by bank transfer.

Not UK stock so no cashback but I gather their after sales is excellent as indeed is their pre-sales.

Oh and I like the idea of a UK office in case there are problems and I can literally drive there :).

i have used panamoz twice, excellent service and fast delivery. Got my 6D on route now, they deliver via DHL takes 3-4 days from ordering. Defiantly pay by bank transfer for the 5% discount!

I was tempted by Procamerashop for my 70-200 f2.8, they had it for just under £1500 I think, where as Clifton Cameras had it for £1750, with £160 cashback... for the sake of £100 I decided to go with the UK sourced one as I knew exactly what warranty etc I was getting and knew I could take it back into the shop if anything went wrong :-) But I worry about stuff like that! lol. A cheaper lens I would probably take the chance!!

Yeah think I am going to stick with DigitalRev or Hdew...the universal warranty from canon on L glass and an office in the UK sells it :).

I was trying to go through Panamoz for my 5D3 but they don't take phone calls and took 2 days to return an email. I went with HDEW and phoned to confirm my order.

Both have good reviews on another photography forum based in the UK but both are grey market dealers that don't pay import tax hence why the price is so low.

It's quite a way from Fenay Bridge Johnny ;)

Seriously though, Panamoz are good at comms - you just need to allow for the time difference between HK and us. Lead times for orders are around 3 days. I placed an order with them back on a Friday and the item was with me on Wednesday morning. This isn't bad considering the time difference as my order would have been received by them over the weekend when they would be shut. So had I indeed ordered with them on Monday morning HK time, the lead time would have even been shorter.

That said, I can't fault HDew either.

Good luck with your purchase.
