I am tempted to pickup the x100f as well. I had bought the x100s used and sold it, but find myself wishing I had it for a basic grab camera again. I'm glad they are finally using the same battery as the other x series cameras now too!

That's honestly the main reason I'm considering one... it would be great to be able to just have one charger and one type of battery to deal with again! I love my X100T though... for some uses I like it more than my X-Pro2.

A few more car shots...

As I told my friends over on the Sony forum, I'm planning a trip to Disney World this December with my family. It's my first time since 1988, my wife's first time ever, and we're taking our 4 and 2 year old girls as well. It's never too early to plan the trip, so I started to think of gear. Laying out my a9, 24-70 2.8, 85 1.8, and continuing to think of a 35mm option is what made me think of the x100F. I know I can buy the Sony 35 1.4 which is another heavy lens. That combined with my existing kit would make my backpack maybe 10 lbs? i could just bring the 35mm f/2.8 only to keep it light but then what's the point of having a $4,500 camera if I'm going to throw on a $500 fixed lens.

That made me think of the idea of bringing only the X100F. I'd be "forced" to shoot with a 35. In a pinch I could use the digital teleconvertor to get a 50/70. Doesn't bother me that's it jpeg only, right now I'm shooting raw + jpeg but I simply don't have the time to sit down and process Raw files anymore. I've processed maybe 8 in the past year, so I'm mostly sharing jpegs anyways.

Having just a light weight, carry around my neck 35mm might free me up. I read an article on fstoppers the other day about a photographer whose so caught up in photography that it takes away from family enjoyment. I'm starting to feel that way sometimes too. I'm so caught up in gear and trying to capture pictures of my kids sometimes that I'm more focused on the shot then of them. I took a day trip up to Newport RI and had many wonderful shots, I could tell you which lens I used, which focal length I shot it at, which setting I used, but I can't remember what I ate, where we visited, or what else I did that day.

I know that using only a x100F might limit me at times when I wished for something wider or longer. But I do suffer from analYsis paralysis sometimes when I'm overthinking it and I either overpack or stand there and try and think of which lens to use. Forcing myself to be similar might be just what I need.

just joined the club!!

xt2 with 23 f2 on its way!!

plus grip..

28-35mm is my favorite all around focal range .. so we'll see how this works out

hoping its the unicorn I've been chasing... my weather sealed , rugged , do it all , travel, vacation, portrait , street shooter,
between its stills and video capabilities , seems like compromises in all the right places for my preferencese so .... should be about right .. but so many cameras do seem so right on paper . but no other way to find out then to get one;-)a

l

Did you get your a7sii sold then?

Good luck with that! Finding that ever elusive camera is a search that I'll always be on. So much so that I'm considering adding an x100F to my stable, lol.

As I said in the sony thread I reckon you will really like it, it's a great camera

Pretty hard to go wrong with an X100f. Small, light, unobtrusive and folks are more comfortable being photographed by a little camera. Great companion to a system camera--by itself when you want to go light, or pull it out for a quick shot if you have the wrong lens on your main camera.

Just get it before the trip and use it so you are comfortable with how it works.

If you only use jpegs, you will love Fuji. Much better right out of the camera, especially for skin tones.

C&C always welcomed...
On my images, of course, and on my words as well--as long as it's constructive :).

If I was being facetious I'd say: Arguably, what's the point of having a $4,500 camera if you're not even going to take it or process the RAWs?

The X100F is small, the real benefit of it on a trip like that.
Forcing yourself to use only one angle can be a great experience, no messing about with changing primes or carrying big zooms about. Nothing else to think about but the moment.

I love using my XF18mm F/2 for day to day stuff and very often don't bother bringing out another lens at all. I love it because it is small and wide. You might be surprised how well you get on with one lens & I'm sure there will be times that you'd wish for a longer lens but if you are staying close[Ish] to your family 35mm is a good reach. Anyway even if you crop in from 24Mpx to 12Mpx - still loads of detail there.

No ... no interest has been shown in it here or on FM ... ebay is next..but not till I try the Fuji and decide if its a keeper

i'm trying to see if I can hold on to it.. but its hard to justify keeping it ,,, to myself of course
its low light abilities are so impressive .. but i'm not needing iso 12,800 and up on a regular basis anymore ..

lets say it turns out Fuji is the way to go for me.. well I want the 56 1.2 and the 16-55 2.8 right away... those 2= ~$2500 give or take a couple

id like to think that worse case on ebay I could get $1700 for the a7sii after ebay and paypal take their cuts ..

well I've tried every camera maker that I'm interested in Canon, Panasonic , and Sony and I always had a curiousity about Fuji.. but it was the last ..because I think for me it wasn't until the xt2 that it became more appealing but at about that time I was still testing the sony waters..

from its spec list .. it seems like a good candidate for me , but only hands on experience will tell

Good question, which is why I'm looking forward to seeing if the X100F will work for me. I shoot RAW + JPEG for all my shots and having dual card slots means I can quickly import photos to my iPad. I like having the assurance of having the raw files but I haven't had the chance to touch them. But like most things the more and more files I add to it, the more backlog I have of files to process.

To be honest the a9 might be overkill for my needs, just it's the only Sony out that has the features that I am looking for (dual card slots, joystick, killer AF). I don't need the 20FPS or the other standout features of it. The two missing features from the X-T2 to me are the Touch screen (not A deal breaker) and the IBIS.

I could conceivably dump the a9 and 24-70 and refit myself with a x100f, X-T2 package that's on B&H (body, booster grip, 18-55, 35 f2) and still come out ahead.

I read through the last 30-40'pages of this thread and it seemed like at one point you seemed to be in the process of returning it. What changed that made you decide to keep it?

Yeah I pre-ordered it and the day it arrived tried it out and felt that the AF was the same as the x100T (the af was the only thing I disliked about the T) so I returned it the very next day. In hindsight I didn't give it anywhere near enough of a try. I re-purchased and realised it's actually awesome and a big improvement over the T I owned and now I can't recommend it enough to people.

I've been putting my X-T2 to good use from Car shows, personal family video and vacation documentation. I brought my X-T2 and 80D on my recent mini vacation. I'll admit I've used my X-T2 alot more than my 80D.....why????

I put my 16-35 f/2.8mk2 with Rode stereo mic on my 80D for camcorder application and some stills.

"IF" Canon actually produced a Canon 16mm f/1.4 prime lens I think I would use the 80D alot more.

Do I miss bringing my Canon 5dmk3 and L lenses????? YES!!!!! and No. On my 100% SRGB IPS panel at home I can see the difference in Fuji files vs my aging 5dmk3. The weight factor was the main reason why I kept my 5dmk2 and 5dmk3 at home. I much prefer my Canon full frame with 16-35 f/2.8mk2 when I shoot vs my Fuji X-T2 with 10-24mm f/4. The sunflares of the 16-35mm f/2.8mk2 is pointy and distinct while the Fuji 10-24mm has the characteristics of the japanese WW2 flag of the rising sun shape. The Canon 16-35 f/4IS has even a cleaner beautiful spikey sunflare at f/8 and smaller.

During the car show photos in bright beautiful sun the X-T2 with 10-24mm exhibits a haze that I do not get with my 5dmk2/5dmk3 with 16-35 UWA zoom. I actually hit my fuji files with some dehaze and add clarity. Both my 16-35 UWA and 10-24mm use B+W high quality filters. I've yet to use my 80D with Canon 10-22 UWA for car shows so I cannot comment on my 80D files.

During my mini vacation with the kids even in my X-T2 with 55-200 and 10-24mm in sunny daylight in shaded areas with lower contrast I got "!AF" from time to time which means the fuji cannot lock on AF. My 80D hammered every single shot and I did not get any hesitation whatsoever with this mirrored body.

I do find majority of my photos are great using my X-T2 for my casual needs and family documentation. I will also add that the IQ from the fuji is superb. However my heavier Canon 5dmk3 with L lenses for still photography do everything I throw at it in any situation. As you can see the X-T2 has advantages of being lighter, good iso performance, film preset to video for my family documentation. The light weight 80D actually misses on a 24mm FOV f/1.4 prime but otherwise the Canon can land virtually anything I throw at it with no AF hiccups.

I must analyze my Fuji constant AF settings more but as I was using center point AF locking on a killer whale by the ferry (far distance). Seemed I was locked on but then as I depressed my X-T2 it hiccuped not taking the shot
. When I use my 80D center focus using constant AF and depress the shutter I hammer the shot perfectly. Please note using zone AF would NOT work in this specific application as I am following something precisely with a specific focus point. This is where my 80D destroys my X-T2 which seldom ever is discussed on youtube etc etc........

I absolutely love my fuji a lot but I am not afraid to mention it's weaknesses. Canon, Nikon or Sony is not perfect so this is where I pick my tools specifically for the application. Autofocus is something I rely on and my heavier mirrored bodies deliver. If you watch the youtube videos of the recent Nikon D5 vs Sony A9 you'll hear several times that the Pro photographers mention how virtually every mirrorless camera on the market has issues in AF in low light EXCEPT the Sony A9.

Do I miss full frame? absolutely since I find my style of photography I still get cleaner files in low light situations and I virtually never miss a beat in AF. Does it matter ???? On print or low res viewing on your smart phone looking at Facebook ....NO. Your tolerance to IQ is dependent on individual to individual. The biggest issue in 2017 is everyone wants IQ and small light form factor. The fuji line is my tool of choice. However for instant AF in every single light situation thrown at me I actually trust my 80D and FF bodies for my style of photography.

Grab your T4i and throw on a 430exii or 580exii etc and shoot an event in low light. I assure you with full confidence that your rebel will lock on AF in dark light situations like a champ. I've now tried on several occasions with my X-t2 with fuji "flagship"EF-X500 $$ and still get missed shots relying on AF.

Please go ahead and buy an X-T2 and you'll love it!!!! Just be aware that your style may see limitations or possibly you may have found your perfect system. In my situation the fuji is "perfect" for some situations and at times my 80D works better for me. In time I will purchase a canon 5dmk4 and it will be a fantastic tool for me with the negative of weight factor.

Choose your tools. Be concerned of meeting your needs for every situation you are in.

For my car show needs my X-T2 with 10-24mm just meets my needs except I don't care for the sunflare look. I shoot the Great Canadian VW show in August which is the largest VW show in Canada. I really like the look of my Canon 70-200 f/2.8IS mk2
over my fuji 55-200 and looking at the bokeh characteristics of the 50-140mm I know I still prefer my 70-200. This is personal preference but if you do alot of research people in the nikon or Canon world do appreciate how the 70-200 renders even though they are also fuji shooters too. Seems the fuji prime lenses is the desirable lens of choice for fuji shooters anyways.....
