The 56/1.2 focuses faster and more accurately than the 85/1.2L.

If you want a lens with better Bokeh quality than the 85/1.2L, get the APD version of the 56/1.2.

I thought you were about to sell all of your gear ;-)a

LOL!!

Here's the deal with personal preference........

I've done a lot of thinking and the 16-55 will not jive with my application yet I will consider buying the 18-55 kit lens for general use when my daughters use my X-T2.

The 18 f/2, 23 f/2, 35 f/2 will not work for me since I really want primes for f/1.4. Due to compression the 50mm f/2 would have worked for me just fine "I think".

23mm f/1.4 not really a consideration as I totally adore the 24mm FOV from my 16mm f/1.4. I sold my Canon 35L and replaced it with a cheaper awesome 35mm f/2IS just so that I have a 35mm (56mm fov) for my Canon 80D and my infrequent use of 35mm for my Canon full frame. I find the new designed Canon 35f/2IS produces really nice micro contrast that you usually find in the Canon L glass (mk2) newer designed lenses.

Waiting for an updated fuji 35mm f/1.4 mk2 and newer UWA that is f/2.8 instead of slow 10-24mm f/4.....I can dream :)

Sold the 27mm as it did not jive with my style in photography.

90 f/2 is tempting but after using a Canon 135L I've discovered it's very long and a faster 85mm (FOV) just seems more personal when shooting portraits.

The 50-140 is something in my short list as it's going to be versatile for run/gun situations while having infinite opportunities of perspective. I still do feel the Canon 70-200 f/2.8mk2 provides prime lens IQ from 70-200mm zoom and still is better IQ than the Fuji long telephoto offering :)

Nothing in my scope of photography needing a variable aperture lens like the 18-135mm or 100-400.

I definitely need a batter booster for my X-t2. This however becomes a negative as it will make a small form factor into a chunky body.

If I do purchase any more fuji lenses it's strictly due to a "steal" price. I'd buy another fuji body before lens I think........

Evil secondary system that gives me fuji happiness.

I basically used this image as a test shot for editing with my new Microsoft Surface Pro... so far loving the thing :)

X-T1 + Rokinon 85mm via Lens Turbo ii

EDIT: Actually, that might be the lens turbo there in the background on the right attached to my Zeiss 50/1.7... so this might be just a straight through adapter  I can never remember... when using the X-Pro2 I always remember to switch the adapted lenses FL since it changes the frame lines for the OVF, but with the X-T1 I pretty much always forget (which is why it says this was a 12mm lens).

If you want a lens with better Bokeh quality than the 85/1.2L, get the APD version of the 56/1.2.

Looking at comparisons.... the APD does have a nicer fall off but it also apparently changes the real specs to f/1.7 IIRC. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I've read this often when doing my research.

85Lmk2 is truly indeed a pig for AF but for portraits it's sublime. Not something I'd use for ceremony work even for brisk walking subjects. I'm not a Sigma ART lens fan but I did appreciate the blazing Canon EF85 f/1.8 for excellent IQ with accurate focus.

I'll be playing around more with the 56 f/1.2 very soon :) almost pulled the trigger on a 90 f/2 but 85mm FOV matches my style much better.

I honestly prefer the look of slower portrait primes a majority of the time. I think people get too caught up in "bokeh" and obliterating backgrounds with shallow DOF. I can't stand portraits where you have 1 eye ball just barely in focus and then everything else blurred by DOF.

I do love the rendering of the 85L though.

Yes and no :). The T-stop (how much light gets through) becomes 1.7. But the f-stop (how the picture looks, how shallow the depth of field is, how good it is at blurring backgrounds) is still f1.2.

The APD version still focuses better than the Canon, both speed and accuracy, and the pictures look better than the Canon pictures.

The regular (non-APD) version of the 56 focuses much better but the Canon 85/1.2L has a slight edge in picture quality. The APD version is way ahead.

On another note, you mentioned that you love the 24mm FF field of view and f1.4 primes. I am quite surprised the Fuji 16/1.4 hasn't made your short list. It is a field of view you like and it is, arguably Fuji's best lens. It smokes just about anything I have seen in the field ov view and costs a fraction of what the Leica equivelent costs (and the Leica doesn't perform as well other than in having FF coverage).

The 16/1.4 can also make unique images due to the combination of f1.4 and close focus capability, this lens can be used for a type of storytelling you can't do with something else.

I, too, rarely use a portrait length lens at f1.2. I'm much more likely to use it at f2.8. It is how the lens renders that matters, which still shows up at f2.8, that I care about.

An exception to this is the Zeiss Planar 85/1.4 (NOT Otus or Milvus, the older design version), which has a unique quality at f1.4 which is gone by f2. This is worth exploiting :).

I do own the Fuji 16mm :) That is really what made me incredibly happy with the Fuji system. I wish my Canon system had a APS-C 24mm FOV equivalent. I feel my 24Lmk2 with 5dmk3 still is without a doubt sharper with beautiful micro contrast. 24Lmk2 has this similar sharp look just like my newer mk2 generation 24-70Lmk2 and 70-200 mk2. I feel the Fuji 16mm performs similar to an older Canon 24L mk1. The performance of the fuji 16mm is absolutely fantastic.

I've always considered my 85L as a complete pig slow AF lens. It's definitely a magical lens when used appropriately. F/1.2 aperture is really nice when you need it but I often stop down as well.

Aaaah would ya just look at the colour and contrast that the Fuji RAF's give SOOC. Just imported into lightroom no settings applied, no sharping, no colour, nothing. both of these takin with the X-PRO2 and the XF 16mm

I just saw that our very own EverydayGetaway got a plug from Fuji Rumors for his blog defending the honor of the XF 18mm. Nice.

Taking a minimal approach in my Fuji gear line up I wanted to adapt my "vision" with my latest lens. The 56 prime just felt like a perfect fitting glove for the application I intend to use it for. Just enough breathing room between the lens and subjects yet it provides beautiful compression to the image.

I'll have to say I was anticipating and expecting this type of performance from this portrait lens. Pleased with the image quality and somewhat responsive auto focus speed. I wanted this lens not for my previous bad habit of gear whore/lust but now I'm focusing on specific application with selected FOV.

I also just did some personal family portraits sessions with this lens and the f/1.2 still had enough dof with the crop sensor to provide sharp eyes in the small group photo. Using this lens almost felt like the AF performs somewhere in between my Canon 85Lmk2 and EF 85 f/1.8.
