Brought my X-E2 and the good old 18/2 & 35/1.4 out for todays family cycle about the big house, they just had to stop and play on the bales, of course.

Question:

Using the X100S, I'm trying to figure something out that maybe someone else already can advise on faster.

I'm looking to use the "Q" button to have quick access to custom pre-set profiles. Basically one for indoor (high ISO, no ND filter on, etc) and one for outdoor (low ISO, ND filter on). I'd like to be able to quickly just swap from one pre-set to the other if I'm indoor/outdoor, or basically to be able to quickly move from ND filter on/off without using the Fn button (as then I still have to go into the menu to change ISO). I really, really like having fast access to ISO. And I'd like to find a way to have access to both fast changing ISO and ND filter on with the X100S. Not sure if this is possible. Not sure if I can set it so that the ND filter turns on with a custom profile in the Q menu? Or something else? Is there another way to program fast access to ISO without the Fn button so that I can use the ND filter on the Fn button? Oddly enough, the only fast access values I ever want, without having to take my eye away from the OVF, is ISO and ND filter. I generally shoot AV with whatever aperture I have clicked in, so ISO is what I like to handle (and I dislike auto ISO). Or basically am I stuck with auto-ISO and ND on the Fn button and that's it?

Very best,

I don't believe there is a way to set it like you're asking. Saying that, I have two Fn buttons on my X100T I have ISO set to the top Fn button and the ND filter to the other. I have Face Detection on/off set to the Trash button.

Two Fn buttons would be handy.

I'm very unclear why the Exp Comp dial exists, compared to an ISO dial.

Let alone a fast way to get to the ND filter.

Very best,

Very best,

Because exposure compensation is a faster way to account for multiple exposure factors. The newest X100F does have both options.

I find the meter to work well enough for me that I always leave ISO on auto unless I'm using flash. Making quick adjustments with the exposure comp dial makes it very quick and easy to adjust what the camera chooses for ISO.

This is what I do too. Auto ISO with min 1/125 SS (as im mainly shooting people with the x100F) and then when the light drops, or im indoors etc I set to ISO 1600 on the top dial and turn the TTL flash on. It does a remarkable job of fill flash. The more I use this camera the more I love it

EDIT - Im using ISO 1600 with flash when the auto ISO is wanting to put me up at 12800 etc. to keep the noise down. The resulting files are lovely

I'm certainly not used to a "good' auto-ISO, so I'll start experimenting with this and see how it behaves.

I just set C1 to be my indoor any-aperture, auto-ISO with a 1/60s shutter minimum and various other settings and set my C2 to be my outdoor wide aperture, low ISO set, various other settings and will just use Fn to set ND filter on.

I'm used to using FEV on my ETTL flashes to handle exposure overall, so maybe I can get used to the Exp Dial for this purpose too.

Too bad the Dial can't be custom configured!

Very best,

That's my settings and then I have three Auto ISO limits, 1600, 3200, and 6400 - it's on 3200 upper limit most of the time. Only time I set ISO is when I shoot landscape and I'm using a tripod.

I also use Auto ISO and AE at times, I find setting the metering mode to anything other than spot works well.
I can then use the exposure comp dial as an ISO dial, you can see the ISO move up and down as you turn the dial with your thumb. Very handy when you can see your exposure in the EVF.

Settings for me are 1/125 & ISO 200-12800

I actually need to use the auto modes more. I also find the auto iso great when not using a flash.

I shot an event yesterday and bounced back and forth from inside to outside during the afternoon so I managed my exposure with all three dials. I love these dials they are so easy to change The settings and the EVF is helpful too.

Maybe just my mind making me see things which aren't there but it looks like more 3-d to me compared to my other cameras/lenses. This was just a test shoot closer to home. Single AD600 with an extension head in a 37" deep octa clone camera left.
