It’s not that I am unhappy with the XT1’s performance, in fact it’s what made me give up Canon in the first place. I just like to limit what I carry around everyday, and the XPro2 fits my needs nicely. Sure if my XPro2 died it would be nice to have 24MP vs 16MP, but I think I could still make do ;)

My main debate as whether to lighten up on my lens collection because of overlap, but my selection of lenses is too good to also ant to keep them all.... my preciouses....:D

So currently I have the X-Pro2, XT-1, 23mm, 35mm, 56mm, 90mm, and 50-140mm.

I had put my 90mm up for sale, and have a potential buyer. I figured when I sold it, I might put the funds towards an XT2, but currently, my XT1 sits on a shelf. It’s a backup for my xpro2. My question is, do I really need an XT2? I know the 50-140 and the 56 and 90 overlap, but different beasts in my opinion. I guess I felt a little remorse for getting the 50-140, so I was thinking I need to get rid of something.... but I’m greedy haha.

Didn't you just answer your own question?

I lusted for an X-T2 before they came out, was certain I'd end up with one eventually. I bought my X-Pro2 sort of on a whim as a compromise since I knew the X-T2 was going to be hard to get for a while after launch and I found a stellar deal on my X-Pro2. So happy it worked out that way, I love my X-Pro2. I bought an X-T1 as a backup for my X-Pro2 and feared I'd find I prefered it's ergonomics and larger EVF... I don't. Like yours, my X-T1 spends most of it's life on a shelf, I really just use it when I want something a bit smaller/lighter with changeable lenses or as a backup.

To me the difference in image quality between X-TransII and X-TransIII isn't worth getting excited over, both are excellent. Sometimes I even prefer the look of my X-TransII files. So really it comes down to ergonomics, burst rate, and video. If you prefer the ergonomics of the X-T1, but only use the X-Pro2 because you prefer it's IQ, need the faster burst rate, or you want the additional video options (which last I heard are coming to the X-Pro2 soon anyway, something I'm super excited for) then buy an X-T2... otherwise, stick with what you've got ;)

You always need a back up... and the X-t2 is better than the X-t1.

There's always going to be a "better" camera. How much better is the question. If it's spending it's life on a shelf as it is I'd call that a huge waste of money just to upgrade for the sake of your shelf ornament being "better".

PLLphotography wrote in post #18491406 (external link)
Well yes, the XT2 is better than the XT1, but my issue is that the XT1 doesn’t see any action as it is, and would it even be worth getting the XT2 if it would suffer the same fate. I’m not going to go buy the latest and greatest gear because it’s “better”. My Canon 5D Mark II served me very well despite the Mark III and Mark IV models that surpassed it. It didn’t make my 5D Mark II take worse photos.

This. And again... sounds like you've answered your own question ;)

My brother and his wife on their wedding day. I was in the wedding and thus don't have many shots from the ceremony (my girlfriend did take a few with my camera), but this was right after.

One was processed in camera and one was done in LR

Another vote to keep the X-T1, the X-T2 might be overkill as a backup.

I plan on picking up a used X-T20 as a backup/travel camera whenever a good deal comes along.

I was originally going to do the same, mainly so I could get the video benefits (I want to start dabbling in some YouTube stuff)... but now that they're coming to the X-Pro2 I'll stay happy with my X-T1 as a backup :)

If you are a working pro, then yes, you always need a backup. Otherwise you don’t need a backup

It's all the little improvements that I like with the new cameras, the whole thing just seems much snappier. I really notice that when shooting the two back to back.

I'm not a working pro... if my camera goes down I NEED a backup or I miss the shot. This is not a matter of money.

To each his own.

Exactly!!

Your blanket statement of “you always need a backup” is what I was responding to. I get on fine without one and you don’t, therefore you can’t group everyone in the one box. If you are not a pro and you miss a shot then it’s not exactly the end of the world. If you are a pro who pays his bills with photography and your only camera fails on a gig then you are jeopardising your reputation and future income.

and I already have a backup, the XT-1. It was just more of do I "need" to upgrade to the latest and greatest, but as most already said, I answered my own question. The XT-1 is still a great and capable camera, and if it's not getting used now, the XT-2 would surely suffer the same fate.

I'm having a terrible time at my day job. It's so distracting and detrimental to my productivity when I take delivery of a new (to me) X-Pro2.

Thank you. It had one of those wretched little thumb grips jammed in the hotshoe. Removing it felt as futile as trying to pry open a coconut with my bare hands. Why, bloody why!?! I've only been waiting to test my damned streaklight triggers for a week. ;-)a

Wow just this month alot of youtube video's are creeping up with hardcore users having issues with the X-t2. I'm not having any issues but many of them are now questioning Fuji used for professional use.

They proclaim a lot of love for their personal fuji gear but the youtube vids I watched all mention higher reliability of mirrored bodies over Fuji Mirrorless.

interesting...
