Today I was shooting some trees in the park which had these Christmas lights in white/yellow color. Very strange thing. Before I hit the shutter button to focus on my XT1, you see the lights nicely in the EVF as well on the LCD as you see them with the naked eye. The moment you click the shutter half way to focus, it seems more than 70% of the lights are off. Dark trees. Now if you take the shot and look at it, it looks lights were off. But when you zoom in you see most are on. Very strange feeling. I had same experience shooting same location 3 yrs ago. Actually Google Photos reminded me today about these shots so we went to the same park. Then I tried my Pixel XL and no issues. I tried using the same settings as my Pixel but quite a bit under-exposed by XT1. But then it could the nice HDR stuff we do on Pixel phones in the software which gives nice results for that small sensor in the phone. I tried different ss on my XT1 and it was the same issue.

My trial expires in a little over a week. I'm fairly sure I'll be canceling my CC subscription and getting Capture One.

Would you mind posting some side by side shots when you get a chance. I just paid for 1 yr of LR+CS but would love to hear about C1. Way back when I got my first dSLR (Canon 10d) I started with C1 as I don't think there was LR.

Has to do with the flickering of the LED lights used in the tree.

I posted at least one a few pages back, but as someone pointed out; it doesn't tell much without knowing exactly what I did for each image. The reason I want to switch (probably) isn't necessarily that the Capture One edits are "better", I just find it easier to get more in-depth color edits, layer/brush edits, and most importantly, the performance is just waaay smoother than LR.

I would strongly suggest going to the Phase One website and downloading the free 30 day trial. It takes a little getting used to coming from LR, but spend a couple of days with it and it becomes pretty natural. I was pretty hooked after a week with it, and now I'm pretty certain I'll be cancelling my LR subscription... just for the performance alone, I don't know why Adobe fails so hard at optimizing LR.

I tend to agree with @everydaygetaway. People posting images may show you a bit, but it really is much more useful (and free) to download a trial and look at your own images, images you know intimately and care about. I think this will give you a clear sense, at full resolution, of what the difference is and you will be able to experience the effects of adjustments in a context which matters to you.

It's kind of like walking around a used car lot and kicking the tires. Not a total waste of time, but a test drive will reveal much more. Not to say you will know the program from a test drive, but you will have a strong sense in a way that is much more meaningful to you.

C&C always welcomed...
On my images, of course, and on my words as well--as long as it's constructive :).

Vladis with the x-t1& 56/1.2. I truly love that lens for this kind of thing.

One with the Sigma Art 50mm F/1.4 on an X-T1 of Jack from Brewery Coffee Co. Was trying it out but the lack of aperture control was a bit of a problem for the shot.

This is the shot we decided to do in the end and I think it's much more fitting as it shows a lot of what he is about, this time with the 23/1.4. I so love that lens at times too, it's just so versatile.

I gotta gush a little bit on the Flashpoint TT350F. I was totally skeptical and did not want to "waste" $59 on this flash (holiday sale). But, I just shot two Christmas's back to back with it and it kept up, never missed a beat, and did the same job as the full size flash did, but with only two meager AA batteries, and with a small foot print, you could barely notice it was on a shelf. I ran two speedlites each day and man, you can see a big flash, but the little TT350F just hides. I'm totally sold. Buying more of them. I want three total. Will wait for the next sale. It was almost too easy to set them up to be wifi controlled via R2 communications and they all fired together in ETTL no problem, without any bad metering moments, no missed shots, etc. The recycle time wasn't an issue because I shot once every few seconds or minutes anyways. Also, I never once had to go wake up' the flash either, over 3 hours, and didn't have to change batteries either (shooting at ISO 200, F1.2 to F4 at 1/180s for about 150 shots per day) at all for both days. I had the speedlites spread out to cover most of the major living room and kitchen and they just took care of everything so easily. Again, lovely that not a single beat was skipped. All exposures consistent. R2 communications are lovely. I just placed them on tables and shelves in the room out of sight. Such a lovely simple experience.

Will buy another on the next sale for sure.

I think so but why only my camera and not the sensor in my phone?

I did miss the sale on these small flashes. Could have really used them at Disney. Also yesterday when shooting my kids against Christmas lights I needed something to add some pop as it was getting dark.

Finally took some shots with the Xt2. I used AF but I can't say that I was overly impressed by it. Take that with a grain of salt since I rarely use AF. I think I could have done as well with focus peaking. Didn't do a lot to the images beyond a little burning and sharpening. This is using the Fuji Provia setting.
