Holga 60mm f8 on GFX 50r. :)

I saw a presentation by Erin Trieb, which included work she did in Afghanistan with a Holga. So i decided to get the Nikon mount version and adapt it to the GFX.

I suspect it isn't quite the same as the 6x6 version. That one does vignette but I don't think it's this much.

Still a fun toy. Literally.

C&C always welcomed...
On my images, of course, and on my words as well--as long as it's constructive :).

Just got the XT-3 with the 50mm f2 and the 16mm f1.4. May switch to the 56mm f1.2 but am not sure yet.
Customizing the menu; I am used to the Canon 5d iii and a lot of gear which I sold a few days ago.
What are your thoughts on the 56mm f1.2? Is it worth the extra $$$

As you are familiar with your Canon FF world look back at files if you owned a 70-200 f/2.8. See if you shot the 70mm range for portraits wideopen.

What do you shoot? Is 75mm f/3.0 FF equivalent meet your needs using your Fuji with 50 f/2 prime.

For portraits the Fuji 56mm f/1.2 is a tiny little lens. Regards to your FF reference and familiarity to FF dof it's approximately 84mm f/1.8 FF equiv.

The Xt3 is a very fast focusing body so the 56mm will focus fine as far as speed is concerned. If your concerned with locking on AF with fast action the 50mm will execute the shot with more responsive speed.

If your wanting a portrait lens and want more control of dof ...buy the 56 f/1.2 and don't think twice. In the Fuji APS-C world both lenses are tiny compared to your former world. If you demand thinner shallow dof or require fast glass for more light in low light conditions the 56mm is more ideal.

Another thing to consider is the use of this focal length prime. Some seldom use the 56mm range and use 90mm f/2 or vice versa.

I often use the 35/1.4 & others too I guess, for portraits, personally don't believe in this thing of a portrait lens being a specific thing. Whatever works, all depends on what you want.

Welcome, I don’t have either but it all depends if you need the extra bokeh.

Avoid the overly negative Fuji users and enjoy the new setup!

Yep, not listening to them and not listening to my friends who told me that I'm making a major mistake going from a FF to a crop. So, what. They don't travel and don't have bad wrists and arent 66 :)

Welcome.

Unless you have a problem with the 50 or really need something the 56/1.2 does, I would stick with the 50. It not only focuses faster and has better weather sealing, it is also so light and handy. A pleasure to carry and so compact.

No problems with the 50 at all. I suppose I don't need what the 56/1.2 does. The new baby is so light and just fun.

I have thoroughly assessed what I normally shoot and for the moment the 2 lenses are all I need. Once I've shot myself stupid with the current combination, I will see what focal length I'm missing and will simply take it from there.

regarding the 50 vs 56..

i've owned both..
yes the 56 is a great lens.

I went with the 50 f2..
it will never give me the 1.2 dof.
but i'm ok with that at the moment.

I suppose it all depends on ones style or preference when it comes to dof.

in any case what I do like about the 50f2 is size, weather resistance and Af quickness.
f2 for my uses provides the dof that I like for portraits and even street shooting.

all that being said I do sometimes consider buying the 56 again :-)

I too do not subscribe to the concept of a "portrait lens." The focal length doesn't distort anything, distance to subject does. Shallow depth of field does not equate to portraits. You can shoot a short or long lens, wide open or stopped down, it doesn't matter. Portrait isn't a defined sub-genre either, other than it 99% will have a person's face in it, some where. Studio portrait shooters will be imaging at any focal length anywhere from F5.6 to F11 with lights and someone shooting outdoor with a really long focal length and fast maximum focal-ratio in natural light will have two very different needs and cares when it comes to two very popular forms of portrait photography. A single lens doesn't just get to be that niche because it's not wide angle and has fast focal-ratio.

And we really don't need to compare everything to 35mm crops ("full frame'). It's better to simply refer to the angle of view produced and the actual measured depth of field (instead of the misnomer "aperture" when it's really focal-ratio). I have instruments with 250mm apertures. Camera-folk have no clue what that means really, as they use that term (aperture) to describe their focal-ratio...

</soap box> I'll go back to lurking now.

Very best,

What are your thoughts on the 56mm f1.2? Is it worth the extra $$$

After using the 56 1.2 for about a year and tons of images. I will say its not a lens for any type of movement. It does hunt a good bit and will rack focus alot trying to find its target. I have been contemplating moving from the 56 to the 50 for the faster focus. The lens gave me a good bit of hunting and missed shots last year at Disney during a night parade. It would hunt alot even with good well lit contrasty subjects. Dont get me wrong I really like the lens and gives great images but in any lower light situation it isnt the best choice for even people just walking.
