I am tempted..

but not as brave as you are

hope it works out for you..

I dont shoot any action really.
lately most of my portraits are in studio.
and i've been trying to do cityscapes with a tripod when ever its a planned outing.
so I think the 50s or 50r could work for me

then there is street photography .. i'd keep my x100f for that.

or maybe sell all but my xt2 and a 23f2 , just in case? (in terms of cost i'm guessing used prices these 2 are about the same)

I like to dream:lol:

Yeah I only do 2-3 weddings a year and do not advertise- usually friends or friends of friends. I couldn't justify keeping my system of 3 bodies and 7 lenses around. Too much gear going to waste. i think my days will be less stressful not managing and tracking all of my equipment.

So my new kit will be the 50r with the 45, and an XH1 with either the 90mm, 35 1.4, 50 f2, or 16 1.4 on it. I am assuming it will be the 90 most of the time.

For those infrequent wedding gigs you're better off just renting gear (another X body). I think that's a great kit but my concern would be the AF speed of the 50R if you compare it to an Xt3. Compatible redundancy would be much safer.

My take on gear is that even if it's infrequently used, it's worth every penny when its at your finger tips when you need it.

I am just trying to pair down and stick to the focal lengths I like. 35 and 135 are my favorite. The ideal goal for me is to be exactly between a hobby and a career. I don't want to do 60 weddings a year. I want to do 10 weddings a year tops and have a distinct, high quality style. I figure the best way to do that is to limit my options and stick to a "style"

This makes a lot of sense.

A number of wedding photographers have gone over to GFX and the AF concern is common when new folks consider it. There is a Facebook group dedicated to GFX wedding photographers.

Those who practice have figured out a working method which works with the gear. If you are a hard-driver on AF and used to pushing the XT3, you will be dissatisfied. But if you are creating high quality images where you are more seeing it come together, the GFX is great.

After I started with the GFX, I don't use the X gear and have been paring it down. I will keep the last X camera and a couple key lenses until I get a second GFX body. Which might be in two years :).

I kept one body from the old system when I got the Xpro1. I eventually traded it and the last lenses from that system for the Xpro2.

Well, after palying with the XT-3 for a week, I changed my mind and returned the camera along with 2 lenses and exchanged it for a Sony a7iii with 2 Zeiss primes. I realized that I wasn't a crop girl.

Sony is also a crop sensor at 24x36mm. Get a GFX 33x44mm. ;)

i thought on this camera for a year. I paid attention to how i shoot weddings and I rarely ever put the camera in continuous auto focus. Everything is is a composed shot where I have time to focus and move.

The only two times I am worried about auto focus are the walk up/down the aisle and then the entrance to the reception. Maybe the first dance a little but that is more of lowlight than AF tacking.

Either way I think it is going to work. I will report back mid june.

It's tough to be in between hobby and Career. Work and life balance becomes a challenge.

I can see that you are focused in retaining a style and sticking with it. Redundancy is key IMO and if a body goes down you can pickup with a same/similar body.

2x GFX100 would be a fuji lovers dream combo :) but now we are talking larger gear from the X bodies.

Looking forward in seeing some gfx stuff on this forum.

One thing I'll say is that Fuji is childs play for editing since colours is very good sooc.

I'm in a comfortable position now with my Sony A73 as far as Sony colour is concerned.

Last day I was using my aging XT2 and I enjoyed the easy post processing. Sony still takes some more time in editing. Goes to show there are pros/cons to everything.

I'll say the Sony FF with my Sigma 24mm ART (eventually going to buy the Gmaster 24mm) has a totally different look compared to the fuji equivalent 16mm f/1.4 on my xt2.

The new 3.01 firmware on your Sony camera is killer!! enjoy your gear!

What is the X bodies not giving you??? Go big or go home???? :P

The GFX100 is truly intriguing!! Now that sounds like a great events camera as long as you can have a compressed "smaller raw" file. This is where there's such a balance between a sweet spot of 24+ MP files vs a whopping 50-100MP.

It's the files. I was perfectly happy with X files and regularly print to 16x20" and sometimes to 20x30". But once I started working regularly with the GFX files, it's hard to go back.

And I'm afraid of the 100 files. The BSI sensor and 14bit vs 16 bit--very promising. My guess is we will get about 1 stop of ISO improvement, too.

The xf100mp files are around 170MB each. But storage is cheap and computers are powerful enough for them so consider more storage and a up to date processor part or the buy in. Medium format is lovely to shoot with, I know it’s getting faster to use but in the same way I like making espresso in an old manual machine that takes time to work, the slowness adds to the art. The new GFX100 specs look interesting with the ibis etc and definitely a good push towards a more useable in the field camera. Also big format sensor for 4K video and they also launched or are about to launch their LF lenses. Lovely stuff

Well, in a sense, yes but I'm not willing to travel with a medium format camera, sorry.
