I’ve been told that the hassy is a ‘real’ medium format camera ( in reference to the GFX being a Crop) of course the disbelief when I mention the H5D and H6D 50c both have the same sensor as the Fuji is unstoppable. Harsh comments all the same.

It will be interesting to see if Hasselblad or Pentax are still in the game and if they will produce a 100MP camera. If not, the consumers are left sitting on an lens and camera assets which will quickly diminish in resale value.

The GFX100 looks like a killer camera for anyone shooting portraits, weddings or anything in that vein, which is a huge chunk of the professional photography industry. The two GFX50 models gave the full frame tree a shake but this should really cause a major wobble in the market. Fuji have been ballsy in this venture into medium format but this camera could be where they see their real pay off, especially because they have a major leg up on the competition who have been busy clubbing each other with full frame.

I'm not the market for that camera. I'm not a working pro and I don't have the money for that kind of treat, but this camera could, and should, be revolutionary in the professional world - especially with what looks like an increasingly small, professional market for camera sales now that casual photography moves steadily towards mobile devices, I can't see why one wouldn't want 100mp medium format with IBIS and eye-AF with tracking.

I can't see how any wedding photographer would sensibly buy a 100mp MF camera. It's simply too much data for too many use cases. I do see the value in portraits and other low volume use cases (though I personally question the need for 100mp even in those). But when your task is to document an event by shooting hundreds or thousands of photos, even the 40-50mp range is a lot to handle. IBIS doesn't necessarily carry a lot of value when you're documenting people in events (weddings or otherwise), because you often need the shutter speeds that will not blur motion. Same with eye-AF - you're taking pictures of people in an environment, and not headshots.

Granted, I'm not excited about the GFX100. But I do appreciate that it's a niche offering towards a niche group of users, which I'm pretty does not include many wedding/event photographers. What I truly applaud Fuji for, though, is how they're changing the MF market in general. They're basically making MF cheaper AND better from most users' standpoint.

I'm pretty sure one day I will buy a GFX. But I'd hope for fewer megapixels, and not more. The prices also still need to come down for me to be able to justify the spend.

Fair, I hadn't really thought about the mountains of data.

I think the GFX100 is probably less niche than the previous MF offerings because of its capabilities, offering more to more photographers.

The H6d 100c is 100mp and the larger sensor but $$$ of course so if you are spending might as well buy the Phase IMO. ;)

Katsuya, an Japanese artist, over from Australia for work dropped in today for a portrait. Always good to work with fellow artists, this is the first one out of the camera (edited in C1), there a few more to do...

If Samsung sensors are truly the next manufacturer Fuji will use down the road for X bodies that’ll be interesting. I wonder if it can surpass Sony's sensor tech in clean files.

My hopes for the Gfx world would be a gfx50 mk2 with XT3 performance. 50mp seems more sensible for the next level Fuji user wanting a little more in sensor performance. 100mp is narrowing the group making the GFX even more niche unless Fuji can create a smaller RAW file. On the other hand this may increase the sales for the Professionals appreciating a more economical mini MF solution.

The new GFX is great to have in the family. However in the community I cannot see a huge percentage moving up the next tier level for events photographers.

Exciting to see Fuji creating such a new GFX beast.

Talk of Multishot mode, a 400Mp output in TIFF or raw, man I could go nuts over that for the big commercial prints that I do for hotels and shopping centres. Must put a list together of how it will fit in work

I don't see the point of a small raw file these days, computers are really fast and storage is super cheap, not such a bid deal working up 16Bit 100Mp raws anymore, even if they are 170MB each. I think anybody (most people) who pays up for the 100s will be the kind who shoot less and think more. If you are budgeting for a 100Mp camera then add in a few grand for a decent computer and some storage.

Kim, I must really sound like a Canon user LOL!! It's Canon mentality of thinking that there is a small, medium and large RAW file option :)

Wow I just looked up the price for this camera and it's only $14,896 CDN including tax LOL!! I guess to put things into perspective when I was a full time auto tech $15,000 worth of tools barely covers the bare essentials as tools for the trade.

Just a matter of time we will see a lot of Fuji ambassador using the GFX100 in a promotional video to show the beast capabilities. The average GFX owner probably isn't the sort to rattle off action photos.

And I just got my new XC50-230 through the post and I'm feeling epic. Couldn't justify the extra £300 for the XF55-200, let alone the extra weight. Funny world we all live.

Congratulations on your new lenses!

We are just excited because this is a significant move on Fuji's part, but that shouldn't detract from getting a new lens.

Getting a new lens is wonderful because it gives you a new angle on the world.

Thanks for your kind words. I know that down road I will probably upgrade that but, as you wisely put, the knowledge on shooting with the humble 50-230 will be invaluable. I can leave this Fujifilm's full frames gravedigger for the Yodas out there.

Important to remember that life goes on while new cameras are announced. Enjoy your new lenses, may they help you produce many great photographs!

These are from almost a month ago now, I think ... it takes me that long to bother to sit down and process photographs these days. First is a house some friends are building/renovating, and the second is hopefully not the electrician they will be using ...

First run for Katsuya, after spending a morning shooting and chatting the work of producing starts. He fly's back to Aus tomorrow but we talked about a bigger piece that I love to get him in for, hopefully early next year.

Finding a strong connection when you shoot sometimes it's difficult to not become friends afterwards, got a late text & ended up last nigh in my local pub having a pint of Guinness and a cigar. More shots to edit up in this series but for today this will do.

enjoy!

Back when I shot Canon, my absolute favorite lens was the 50L/1.2 prime. When I switched to Fuji, I got the 35/1.4, but I sold it and got the 23/1.4, and nowadays I actually prefer the slightly wider focal length. Maybe i shot 50mm too much. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Those are awesome. An almost painterly look to them, like an old Renaissance painting.
