The X-E1, X-Pro1 is also just as capable as today upon it's release1. The modern chain of events cause improvements. My personal projects and hired events do cause my demands to go higher in my gear performance. Newer revisions tend to improve upon the last generation. As you stated you shoot adapted glass, this requires human effort in focus. Your personal needs are just as different as others on this forum.

The car analogy is interesting. There is a person that drives a car and then there are people that love to drive. I'm a car enthusiast and this is where the range of people vary just as much as photographers. I had a cintered iron clutch and did 1.5 foot wheelies in my 11 second street car 1965 VW beetle but I also own a bone stock restored 1967 VW beetle with vintage plates, Toyota corolla, Honda Pilot and Odyssey. Even my cars all have different purposes ;-)a:-P

I'm a person that will not dramatically proclaim Fuji has soul in usage of a modern camera that looks retro. The connection to photography is between the human subject/object you are taking photos. I do not seek this in handling gear with emotion. Manual knobs are very good but I navigate equally as well with buttons on my Sony or Canon. If the latest Canon EOS M mk2,3 etc creates a retro knobby configuration I'd use it just like as if it was an appliance. Fuji's approach with the new GFX100 that has reduced this "tactile emotional experience" and has become functional as if you are using a microwave with LCD display!! Their approach is perhaps based on more weather sealing in the reduction of knobs.

Gear is just tools. Selecting FF gear for me is just as pertinent as you picking a zoom or prime for certain applications. If I buy a new lens it based on how it will provide me certain compression, bokeh, speed of AF acquistion, colour etc. I'm "focused on gear" based on what I demand. I'm just as active in changing my style of photography and self educate on my studio I've done for many years in my home studio. As my income has zero baring on photography i'm enjoying it even more as a hobbyist. I've been there and done from natural light shooting/studio and thankfully I do not need supplemental from photography. I definitely buy gear to meet my needs as some lenses cannot provide the look I want.2 I also buy bodies as my high speed keeper and high iso demands are met with my other gear vs Fuji. Yes...skill in composition is not developed by gear.....that is understood :-)

1.Then you realize the fallacy in a claim that a camera "ages"...
2.That's not my point and no one would challenge you on that...

I know, cameras with large bodies and small sensors suck yet some manufactures just keep pumping them out :p

Fuji didn't have an IBIS system that would fit into the X-T3 at the time so that's why they opted to not include it. Of course that might change in October but I wouldn't hold your breath.

Of course having the availability of a 100Mp Medium Format camera in a body smaller than a 1DX is outstanding, a camera with 100% PDAF coverage and all the other pluses that mirrorless tase to offer. How outdated DSLR's now look. Of course there are smaller bodies buy those are for amateurs - according to the Canon marketing peeps so I'm discounting them

Anyone what to know anything about the GFX100 ask away, I'm getting one tomorrow for a play.

Oh and how about our little portrait challenge Alan, Yes/No ?? I cleaned my X-E2 specially for it. :-D

Portrait challenge is a pass......

As a hobbyist (and choose to be hired semi pro) I am now calling out my Family / close friends to document family portraits. I am seeking them, as there is no payment involved. I'm doing this as a gesture to provide memorable professional photos of our aging parents that do not live forever. These are people that would never go out of their way to pay a competent professional photographer. This is not disrupting the hired photog's local market. However I may seem on the internet, I give where I can.

I've done 3 light headshot's last year with my fat clunky 5dmk4. My local shop just got a batch of Godox AD200 (Pro)mk2 and have been considering on buying 3 of them but ended up buying my Sigma ART 105mm f/1.4 instead :)

I'm in debate with my gear. Now considering selling my entire Canon and fuji aps-c gear. I can potentially have a full Sony lineup and have enough to genuinely consider a different system. It'd be a stretch but I could go GFX100 and 1 lens. If Fuji created a 50MP GFX50S mk2 with same body performance as the GFX100 that would be more logical for me while saving a buck or two. I really DO NOT want 100MP. I sure hope Fuji can see that there is potential to have a NON full frame line but with a reasonable market that would prefer less than 100MP. Then at least they can provide a market that demands 100MP and another that can tolerate 50MP but reap the benefits of a mini MF sensor. The push button appliance navigation of the GFX100 would be blasphemy for devout modern retro fuji shooters that seek emotion and soul from their camera LOL!!!!

Lots to consider if or when I let go of my mirrored Canon.

I like to have my camera on me, and still should do so more, to capture little things that catch my eye. I liked this retro ice machine at a petrol station, and also the cool twilight light with it. Not much else.

I'll probably print it at 12x10" and 16mp will be plenty for that. (8mp would have been plenty.)

Kim, how is the AF is main thing to know along with face/eye detect. Second would be the vertical grip.

I must have had a personal best today as far as sharp photos today..

1. xh1
2. NO coffee before the shoot

or maybe suddenly I have the hands of surgeon? .. yeah thats it..

actually I shot with the xh1 mostly and the xt3 with the 35 1.4.. and even the xt3 gave me very few camera shake losers

oh . and this is in my continuously evolving studio.. I finally got a proper back drop .. actually it was too big and a bit of hassle to transport and set up ..but now that its done i'm excited to really spend time in there and practice

There is no 50MP 33x44 sensor capable of: "a 50MP GFX50S mk2 with same body performance as the GFX100".

This would require Sony (or others) to manufacture such a sensor with all the same capabilities (PDAF, BSI).

I'm guessing that the cost of building the sensor, the probable cost based on R&D costs over potential volume would make this 50MP sensor pretty expensive per unit--likely not much less expensive relative to camera cost. Add to this the R&D cost to get it working and cost to set up manufacturing, it's hard to see us ending up with very significant cost savings.

But if there were enough demand (volume), anything is possible :)

C&C always welcomed...
On my images, of course, and on my words as well--as long as it's constructive :).

GFX100s

Face tracking is surprisingly fast, and having the whole sensor to shoot from if great.

Camera is quick to start up and the shutter is light. With the OIS I could get 1/10 sharp. That is just nuts.

EDIT: Vertical grip: camera not so heavy so I didn't really notice any issues but I was only shooting with it for about 10 minutes today. Perhaps if it was hotter or my hands wetter there might have been some slipping but I didn't notice anything like that. It's a different shape to the other grip, kinda longer but less thick, sure a bit of grip tape would cure any of that if it worried you. Look cool on a 10K camera too, ha!

Took a few shots but can’t share as the FW is on pre release but the detail is right up there with the Phase. Also multi shot is being worked on they are figuring out the number of pixels to shift with the IBIS to get it working right. For me that is a great option as I regularly shoot high mp stuff.

Mmmmmmmm, what to.

Well... As a business expense this gfx100 camera would be an inexpensive tool. As a former licensed auto tech it’s easy to drop that kind of money on an annual basis running my shop for just basic primitive tools due to wear and tear.

The gfx100 would be something to have due to overall performance both body and sensor.

Gfx50 would be a drop in the bucket for a thriving photog business primarily shooting slow/static subjects.

Lucky you to play with new gear.

Indeed, I know how much a store had to spend to be a Ducati dealer. It was a lot more then I’ve ever spend on a camera and lenses.

Nah man that’s work not play, honest.

I have to say these shots are from pre production firmware in the GFX100s, there was no meter shown in the camera, there is one of course it just not on. So I had to eyeball these, a few stops under on the first one but with ISO50 no bother to raise :)
Screen shot at 300%zoom on a 5k screen.
