The X-E1, X-Pro1 is also just as capable as today upon it's release1. The modern chain of events cause improvements. My personal projects and hired events do cause my demands to go higher in my gear performance. Newer revisions tend to improve upon the last generation. As you stated you shoot adapted glass, this requires human effort in focus. Your personal needs are just as different as others on this forum.
The car analogy is interesting. There is a person that drives a car and then there are people that love to drive. I'm a car enthusiast and this is where the range of people vary just as much as photographers. I had a cintered iron clutch and did 1.5 foot wheelies in my 11 second street car 1965 VW beetle but I also own a bone stock restored 1967 VW beetle with vintage plates, Toyota corolla, Honda Pilot and Odyssey. Even my cars all have different purposes

I'm a person that will not dramatically proclaim Fuji has soul in usage of a modern camera that looks retro. The connection to photography is between the human subject/object you are taking photos. I do not seek this in handling gear with emotion. Manual knobs are very good but I navigate equally as well with buttons on my Sony or Canon. If the latest Canon EOS M mk2,3 etc creates a retro knobby configuration I'd use it just like as if it was an appliance. Fuji's approach with the new GFX100 that has reduced this "tactile emotional experience" and has become functional as if you are using a microwave with LCD display!! Their approach is perhaps based on more weather sealing in the reduction of knobs.
Gear is just tools. Selecting FF gear for me is just as pertinent as you picking a zoom or prime for certain applications. If I buy a new lens it based on how it will provide me certain compression, bokeh, speed of AF acquistion, colour etc. I'm "focused on gear" based on what I demand. I'm just as active in changing my style of photography and self educate on my studio I've done for many years in my home studio. As my income has zero baring on photography i'm enjoying it even more as a hobbyist. I've been there and done from natural light shooting/studio and thankfully I do not need supplemental from photography. I definitely buy gear to meet my needs as some lenses cannot provide the look I want.2 I also buy bodies as my high speed keeper and high iso demands are met with my other gear vs Fuji. Yes...skill in composition is not developed by gear.....that is understood

1.Then you realize the fallacy in a claim that a camera "ages"...
2.That's not my point and no one would challenge you on that...
