I've had the X Pro1 with the 18mm/35mm in my 'basket' with my finger poised for three days............. Was all ready to buy the A7r but I keep getting drawn to the XP1. How is the up-graded AF, what about the viewfinder ? ? ? Anybody have the XP1 AND THE XT1 ? ? ? How do they compare for IQ ? ? ?
I can get the A7r for the price of an XT1, but with no deals on for lens with either of these bodies, the XP1 is a steal !!

AF on XT1 is definitely better. The viewfinder is a runaway winner for XT1. IQ , I think, is only marginally better on XT1, if any.
XPro1 has the old-school charm. There is a special joy using XP1 - hard to explain.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for that. I get what your saying, the XT1 doesn't appeal to me like the XP1. With a deal on the lens and cash back too, its too good a deal to pass over. If I was going to pay the XT1 price then have to buy lens on top, then I would have gone the A7r/24-70 as I can get the Sony for the same price as the Fuji. The lens line up did disappoint me with Sony as of yet.
I'll keep my 7D/100-400 for wildlife and birding then sell the rest off. Too bad for Canon, if the 7D2 had been released earlier I would be shooting it right now. I cant see me going back, the XP2 or maybe an updated A7r will be in my future now :)

The IS on the 18-55mm works really well, never seemed to work this well on my 24-105L

just pulled the trigger on 14mm. we'll see how i like it.

i wanted the 10-24 for versatility, but I rarely shoot UWA so i figure i'd "settle" for the 14 and save some $$$.

^Nice Ben.

Now that you have been using it for a bit, how are you finding your X-T1 and 10-24?

I dislike the electronic focus. You're either stuck with focus by wire (which works OK with the lens, it's just not a physical focus control) or you're letting the camera AF the scene each time you shoot an image which can lead to issues if you need to stack images for any reason (a slight change in AF distance might not change the focus but it CAN change the framing slightly).

I just REALLY wish this lens had a push/pull MF option like the 14mm. I also wish it had a aperture ring with stops and labels. Both of these things are easily overcome, but yeah, it could have been better implemented. The other one is since the AF isn't a labeled ring with stops they should allow us to use the dials on the body if we want like you do with the 27mm.

Basically, what I've been doing is using MF but with the rear AF-L lock to use the electronic focus to focus on something ~1/3 of the way into the scene. Then because it's in MF the camera won't refocus on me.

Optically I LOVE the lens though and the package is so much smaller than my 5Diii setup there's no going back. My criticisms are just so share what's not perfect for the way I work with it. But a lot of that is because of what I'm used to with the 5Diii.

These are my annoyances too. Instead of the AF-L method in manual focus mode you mentioned I have been mostly using manual focus and then using the digital dof scale. So far it seems quite accurate i.e. infinity focus when it says it should be. I would have loved a push pull mechanism with proper dof scale or focus distance scale though so that I am fully in control.

Overall im loving all the Fuji kit. AF speed is my only slight niggle as it seems to take slightly longer to lock than my 5D2 but I can live with it

Ordered an X Pro1 yesterday afternoon at about 2pm. It was delivered this morning at 9am. Nineteen hours :) A thumbs up for Clifton Cameras of Bristol, awesome service. First impression, its built solid, feels lovely in the hand. Battery is charging now, hoping for some interesting weather this weekend.

Any advice as per bag/wrist strap/grip would be appreciated.

What software is everyone using to process your files ? ? ?

Thanks

Ian
