My wife's, cousin's, kid... age 11... worked last summer and saved up his own money and bought a Fuji bridge camera. (I am not aware of the model number) Turns out he's naturally very interested in photography.

I know it's not unheard of, and I don't know why I'm sharing it, but I thought it was really cool. (Especially the part about him saving his own money. To me that means he's truly serious.)

I want to do something to encourage him, without being overbearing about it, but am not sure what to do. I was thinking maybe getting him a simple but good book on composition, etc.

How about taking him on a field trip where you both have cameras and you can give him pointers?

Unfortunately, he lives 8 hours away. I visit roughly once a year, though that would be a good idea for when I do visit.
