I have a Vanguard SBH-250 ball head on a Manfrotto X-prob tripod. The head is very sturdy and came with two plates. I would like to get an L bracket though for a 5D2 but cannot figure out if the head will work with the L brackets that are out there (arca swiss) In reading reviews it says the plates that come with the head are not acra swiss, but in some searches on the forum I read the head may be compatible.

If the head as shipped is not compatible, does anyone know if the top plate is easily switched to a different brand, and if so which? I really like the head and don't wish to need to purchase another just to use an L bracket, but would make modifications.

If I cannot modify at all, what ball head would be recommended for use with the L brackets sold?

Thanks

The quick release clamp on the Vanguard SBH-250 is not Arca Swiss compatible but it can be replaced.
Here is a video showing the removal.
