Posting this here to get some really honest critiques and opinions. Personally, I don't have a clue if this is any good for a silhouette - I've been shooting for a decade and this is my first one.

I usually upload my personal favorites to Flickr and leave the rest for Facebook, and I'm just not sure where this one belongs.

Personally I think it's beautiful.

Is this Charles bridge? I remember going back to see my Czech grandparents in 08 and this photo gives me a strong memory of something familiar about the place :D Either way, I really like it. Was the star effect from pp or a filter?

Thank you both. :)

neimad19, yes it is Charles Bridge facing east towards Old Town. Star effect is neither pp or filter - just the result of shooting at f/16.

I like it. OTOH, you have some detail in the door trying to come through, & I might like to see that, too.

Oh that is beautiful! I will be sure to take one at sunrise when I visit Praue in June. Looks as though you were alone at that hour of the morning.

My first impression was - Now this is really interesting. It is a crisp, clear image.

On closer inspection I think it's a bit too crisp. I think I see a hint of a halo developing around some of the buildings. And like FrankC, I'd like to see more detail in the darks. On the other hand the image makes me want to see more and that's a really good thing.

I like the shot. Just a couple of items to me tho. My eyes want to follow the light into the building where I think a little light in the door way would give a bit more focal point. Cropped a tad higher so the spires were not cut off of the main building would have been nicer.

Hey Ken,

Lovely shot. Really makes me pine for European architecture.....

BUT, on my screen it looks over-saturated.
The magenta is 'coming out of the screen', which makes me think it's been enhanced.

Also, is this a crop? I really hope so, because if it is, it'd be easy to get the top of the building on the right back into the frame.
If not, well...you could throw the photo into PhotoShop (or, I use the GIMP!) and either 'pull' the top of the building into the frame, or add an extra few millimeters or sky plus a fake top.

Anywhichway, it's still a great shot.

Regards,

Simon

This is exactly what I was hoping for!

Thanks to all, especially these gents: this is the type of concerns I had with this shot too. I think I'll leave it on FB but off of my portfolio for these reasons. I suppose I had too high of hopes, but thank you for the points. I did pull more magenta out of the sky than should have been there but it's the only way the photo pops.

It isn't a crop, and now with all the comments about the tower being cut off it's starting to bother me too.

Actually I like it the way it is. It just draws me along the path to the building where a mystery seems to be waiting.
