Has anyone upgraded from 1GB to 2GB of RAM and found there to be much of a difference? I'm considering it, and since it's so cheap I probably will, but i'd like to hear from anyone who's made the same jump.

I went from 512 to 1G and it was amazing with CS. When I bought my new machine I went right to 3 gigs (more than CS2 can handle, but now I have CS2 getting 2GB of it's own.

If you use more than 600MB of RAM in CS (and I'm sure you do) then the upgrade will make many things in CS much faster. Especially the layout stuff you're doing now. It will be an amazing increase in speed.

Oh, a suggestion for what you're doing with the layout stuff. Set your History to 1. Since you're working in Layers there's no real use in keeping undo levels. Just remember to change it back! :-)

Or create an Action that does and Edit... Purge All and click that when appropriate.

You'll move along much faster!

Thanks Scottes, neil, i'll get the RAM. 2GB should be enough, once I outgrow that i'll get a new PC, cost is about US$110 for the gig. Right now Photoshop's sitting on 500MB RAM used, the PC is using 950MB out of the 1GB I have.

I do use my history, because I know it's there, but I might turn it down to 10 for this task.

I did it, and photoshop seems a bit more responsive when I have loads of stuff open. I've let it take up to 1.5GB of RAM, and yep, it takes all it can get!
