man oh man, is it just boredom that i am so enamored with this innovative sensor? some of the pics I have seen have been amazing that it has me wanting to sell my almost new 5D2, my 70-200 F4L, my other couple lenses and just buy this camera with the 18-55 zoom and the 35 1.4 and have a much smaller setup with great IQ. Many say the images are better than they get with their Nikon and Canon FF cameras.

I just can't help liking the thought of great image quality while still having a much smaller camera than my 5D2. Anyone else tempted by the X1 pro and X-E1?

Hard to say. I have heard other say similar things about the sensor. Can you come out financially even or ahead? Is you are really not that happen then go for it. But you are going from a FF sensor to a APS-C sensor. I think you might miss that FF look and DOF.

I'm in Canada. Isn't that weird!

I had the XE-1 for a week, was comparing it to my X100 (while my main camera is the 5dc) and decided not to keep it. Why? let's not talk about IQ the XE1 delivers, it's amazing and IMO the best mirrorless/crop sensor out there. The 35mm delivers buttersmooth bokeh at f/1.4, I seriously doubt you will miss the DOF.

things that I didn't like:
- the EVF: I really can't stand shooting without a big bright OVF. The EVF on the XE1 is laggy and gives me a headache
- AF speed: it's ok for stationary subjects. anything that moves? forget about it. The AF speed is decent with the 18-55, but slow with the X-primes.
- lack of longer lenses: if you shoot with your 70-200 oftenly, mirrorless including this camera is not for you.

I got very close to buying an XE-1 as a smaller camera to complement my 5dii. Took some shots with it in the camera store and then pixel peeped at home. I decided not to go for it, because:

- IQ is very good, but it's not better than the 5dii
- There is almost no PP software that will handle the raw files properly
- The AF is light years behind even the 5dii's system
- The EVF is nice - for an EVF. But an OVF is just so much more natural to use.
- It's still a fairly big camera - smaller than the 5d for sure, but not a compact camera
- It's another system camera with lenses to buy/drool over etc. As a complement to the 5dii, it doesn't make sense. I'd only spend a fortune and then have another bag of gear to haul around.

I'm now looking at the Sony RX100 as a good small camera to keep with me when I travel. Or I may just wait for the EOS-M II - hopefully they'll have sorted out the lack of features by then ;)

And that's what is so tough. Image quality is the main thing with me, that's what i want more than anything., and this apsc sensor looks like it delivers big time.

EVF I don't think would bother me too much, and I don't really shoot moving targets. In fact, my 5D2 is a few months old and I haven't done a moving target shot yet. I do portraits and landscapes mainly, and just normal street stuff and family/people shots. As for lack of longer lenses, I have just seen that they will be bringing out a 55-200 zoom for the cameras. I would start with the 18-55 and that would probably be fine for me while waiting for the 55-200.

I don't know, i just fear that this is the old (grass looks greener over the septic tank) thing and that really this is just gear boredom and me seeing the supposedly next big thing and coveting something other than what I have.

the thing is, if i sold my 5D2 (only a few hundred shutter clicks on it), then got this setup and was unhappy, I would be out my FF beauty and probably wouldn't be able to sell it all back and get what I have now back. I have 3 YN 622C ettl triggers i could sell, i have a 28-135 on the way from Adorama i could just ship back without opening, $280 for it, probably 500 for my like new F4l 70-200, and probably 1,200 for my barely used 5D2 body, still under warranty. I have a new Nifty fifty on the way i could also send back, so i have plenty enough to sell to get the camera with the 18-55 zoom for 1,300, and also get maybe the 60 prime as well. but once my stuff is gone, it's gone and I would lose a ton of money if I were not satisfied. I would be kicking myself hard if I amde the wrong choice and wanted my beloved 5D2 back.

Sure I'm serious, why not? Image quality, from what I see and hear about, is BETTER than Nikon and canon FF. I saw a couple portraits taken with the 35mm and they were so clear, so 3d'ish, so lifelike that they blew me away. Isn't image quality a huge aspect to these decisions?

If you love your 5d2, then my advice is to keep it. since you have several lenses coming in, my guess is that you aren't done with DSLR's (just) yet.

from what I've seen, the (used) price of fuji cameras will go down fast. (paid $1300 for my X100, within a year the price went down 40-50%, which is ridiculous, even a compactcamera holds it's value better) you could always pick up the XE1 as a second camera.

whatever you do, don't replace your gear blindly. try the camera in person first, whatever the XE1 can do, the 5d2 will do better.

here is a thread for the pro 1 and the X-e1. Same sensor in both.

This is at Fred miranda.com. Lots of pics, look at page seven as well, the pics the guy took of his daughter and her boyfriend with the 35mm. I don't even remember seeing this kind of quality in the L lens sample threads. Even if this is equal to l lenses, i could get the camera with zoom, AND a 35 1.4 for about 1,700 bucks or so. here's the link It's a joy to look at some of these pics. Look at the one of the bike using Velvia film simulation, the rich blues and reds.

Lloyd Chamber documented fractal like artifacts with Fuji X-E1. Read it in his blog. http://diglloyd.com/blog/index-30.html (external link)

Surely, you will only get these in perhaps 2% of the pics which still is disconcerting. Better wait until Fuji fix all of these issues.

Fuji XE-1, Zeiss ikon, Hasselblad; I love shooting film as a conceptual idea :)

I think you will miss your FF... an option would be to invest in the littlebrother which also got great reviews and produce very good quality images.

Thanks for the link.. I was getting excited, hoping to see some new, crazy IQ.. :(

I did look at page 7, and a few more pages as well, and honestly don't see anything out the ordinary there I wouldn't expect to see in a 5D2/5D3 thread. Maybe that's a compliment to the X-E1?

The photos of the daughter/boy on page 7 are nice, but they all went through Aperture at some point, so no telling what was done to them (including sharpening, etc).

If someone was excited about 5D2 image quality in a small package, I could definitely understand that. But as far as exceeding IQ that Canon/Nikon current offer, I don't see it in that thread.
