Hi,

I have an LR4 catelog with about 50K images. Even though this system has 8GB RAM and 2x 4 Core Processors, LR has started to run very slow. I am thinking about starting a new catelog from this year. I would like to know if there is a way to copy settings (presets, keywords etc.) from my existing catelog onto the new one.

Thank you.

Hmm...I don't know what the "cleanest" approach would be...you could make a copy of the catalog, open the copy, then delete all the unwanted images from the catalog (not from the disk)...?

The second suggestion in post #2 might work well for you. Export one image as a catalog and then simply open that catalog (File/Open Catalog). I think it will have all the settings from the old catalog.

It's worth trying! Just don't do anything to get rid of stuff you will want/need in the future!

By the way, I have 50k images in my catalog and haven't felt compelled to use smaller catalogs...just sayin'.

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried exporting a few images as catelog and when I open that catelog it only has the keywords that we used for those images.

Tony, could it be difference in computer configuration for the reason why you are your experiencing any slowness?

Baadil, I'd say that indeed differences in your system could cause slowness.

In fact, one thing that people have used that has sped up Lightroom performance has been SSD (solid state) hard drives.

But my system is a few years old, I just think Lightroom performs pretty "normal" with 50k images in the catalog.

Thanks Tony. I will see if I can add an SSD and check performance.
