I'd like to set up my wife's ELPH 100HS to send photos to her Android ICS phone. She always carries the ELPH, but takes pictures with cell phone so she can instagram. I'd like to set it up so she can use the "good" camera and then upload isntantly.

So the question is, can the Eye-fi do this out in the middle of nowhere or only at home when both are connected to my wireless network?

And second question is does it send the image full size over to android or can it send a smaller version.

SO I guess, does this accomplish what I want? Wife at, say, the zoo. Snaps cute picture of the little one and then pulls out phone right there, photo is in gallery and can be uploaded to FB/Instagram?

The Eye-Fi card establishes a hotspot that your phone will join. Depending on your flavor of Eye-Fi card will determine which file formats you can send - the highest end card will send full-sized RAW files, if you have the patience for the time it takes to transfer large files.

Your phone will handle uploading the pics to FB or wherever.

So what happens at home when the phone connects to the home wifi instead?

She can connect to the camera whenever she wants the photos. When the camera is on the eyefi card will send out a signal but her phone will never automatically connect to it. She will have to vist the settings menu in her phone.

If you want smaller sized photos then you will need to do that in camera. The eye-fi card doesnt compress anything.

Websized jpegs transfer in about 4 seconds larger ones can take 20-30 seconds

Also the cheapest one... The connect 4gig can do the hotspot thing... No need to get the expensive version unless you want more storage or raw transfer.

What do you mean? When the phone connects to the home wifi the phone connects to the home wifi. Your phone can only connect to one wifi network at a time.

That's what I mean. If I am at home, the eye-fi won't connect to the phone anymore because the phone is already connected to something else. Seems like it would create some issues there.

Ah. No, the Eye-Fi app goes into snooping mode when not in use. When it detects the presence of the Eye-Fi network it takes over and gobbles up the images then reverts back to snooping. The Eye-Fi card only establishes/maintains the network when there are images to be sent.

Cool. Sounds like a well thought out product. Thanks for the help.
