i was fiddling around with these 2 relatively new camera in the showroom last weekend.. but i can't seem to find anything that shows they have fixed the almost-useless Auto ISO option found back in the 5d2.

i'm talking about the ability to change the minimum shutter speed used before the ISO is automatically upped. have they done it yet?

Somewhat, but I believe the minimum shutter speed can only be 1/250 or more, only based on other input in auto-ISO threads. The 1D3/1D4/1DX, though, allow more tunablity to make auto-ISO work.

i really don't get what canon is doing - i believe there should be a simple software fix to include this feature right? even the cheaper mirrorless cams like e-pl5 is extremely customizable :(

kind of silly to get top of the line body just for a simple auto-ISO feature. argh. :o

Yes, it is. Fortunately for Canon, there are plenty of people out there with more money than sense :)

Not sure about the 6d, but the 5d3's min Tv can go as low as 1/60. Also you can set the Auto ISO range. What is really impressive with the mark III is that even at 12800, the image is clean.

The Auto ISO with the mark III leagues smarter than the 5d2. I still think there's room improve to allow me to manually dial the Tv. Also some sort of smart logic to take into account of fast moving objects (ie in AI Servo).

i don't use it on my Canon bodies because it is as good as useless. on other bodies like my Olympus, or the Nikons, they're worth using. auto isn't always a bad thing

Absolutely I do. I have the C3 mode dial configured for Av w/ Auto ISO, high speed drive, etc. It's invaluable for quickly grabbing the camera and firing off some quick shots while ensuring a correct exposure on the first one. I have great images that I would have missed otherwise.

Makes no sense to me not to leverage all of the tools that your camera gives you, and know under which circumstances certain features are best leveraged.
