I depends how heavily invested you are in Canon gear and if the lenses you need are available for Nikon. Myself I would've loved to get a D600 over the 5D2 I just got but it would have been too expensive to switch. The primary reason why I would've chosen the D600 is the increased dynamic range.

I would also miss my 200mm 2.8 since Nikon doesn't have one of eqvivalent quality and price. I use that lens a lot for portraits.

That is more like huge increase in DR (over 2 stop). Dont really care about the AF as I usually use manual anyway. Build quality will be better, well it is weather sealed at least anyway.

Yea having played around with quite a few raw files, the D600 has way better dynamic range.

Only if you are a dedicated land/seascaper (maybe you are :)). The 2 stops DR advantage is only @ ISO100, @ ISO400 and up there is no real advantage anymore.

Also 5D2 is weather sealed too ;)

Yes, I do shoot only scapes and 95% at ISO100.

Didnt know about the weathersealing, maybe I just mixed it up with 35L that I used to own:)

That is definitely the main question. I do miss some lenses too, but basically was able to get the equivalents of what I had. Sold my portrait glass that would be quite difficult to cover (35L and 135L), but I dont shoot portraits anymore so no real problem for me.

I hope the Samyang 24 tilt shift will be good as I was going to get 24TSE II before the switch

Don't forget Canon's Quick Menu. Although D600 has something similar in its information screen, still Canon's menu is quicker. And that may appear crucial in situations when you need to react quickly. For me that was the main reason to choose Canon when switching to digital after using a Nikon film camera for 18 years (in which all settings could be adjusted extremely quickly).

Nikon has My Menu, which can be set to one of the customizable buttons. Pushing that buttons brings up your customized list of controls. Very useful.

Although I do like Canon's C1, C2, C3 buttons

I used the d600. It's a decent camera like a 6d (specs are so similar). Ergonomics are terrible. And the current oil leak issue is worrisome.

Check out this d600 owner's experience. Reads like a horror novel.

hmm i rarely shoot animals - it's people most of the time.. lol.

will tell you after i decide to switch camps :p

Just say "NO" to the D600. I tried one as a loyal Nikon amateur photog but was not that impressed. Images are wonderful but they seem to have a few QC problems. You probably are aware of the dust/oil issue...it is real. The one I tried was fine in that regard but started to show hot pixels. Mapped them out and new ones appeared almost immediately. Not so cool for two grand.

For me the deciding factor was that most of my glass was not ff and I did not like trying to use DX glass on the ff sensor.

So now have a Canon 100-400 lens and am looking to try out the 6D body. Hope it works out better for me than the Nik D600.

Whichever you choose, happy shooting!

A friend (used to have a d300, very good photog) got a d600 and he is very happy.

If you have canon is usually better to stick with that system.

The d600 has some nice features.
Dual card slots
More AF points
Pop up flash with commander mode(free 300 feature IMHO)
Better fps I think
More megapixels
Works with more old film lenses built in AF motor
AF beam

Now the 6d is great camera and very nice high ISO shots. But if you have no lenses and starting out I would look at Nikon due to more features and the d600 sell was quite a bit lower.

"Any reason to get the 6D over the D600?" Ultimately, according to specs, the Canon should be able to create better pics over a broader range of conditions. Ultimately isn't that what we're most concerned with?

And how do you come up with that conclusion?

Various reviews, specific camera specs, user opinions, etc. But you're entitled to your own opinion.

It seems a lot of Canon 5DMKIII owners are very upset about the 6D. A camera capable of taking pics equal to a piece of equipment they spent $1000 more for only six months ago. Totally understandable since the 6D is smaller, lighter and has several features the 5DMKIII doesn't have. However, the 5Ds' auto focus system is great! As long as one has good light it's capable of getting some great sports pics. If one is into taking sports pics.
