Jarr,

I ordered it from Amazon for $559 so only $40 off list. The deal is no longer there, I just checked. Odd. Anway, I'm a prime member so there is free two day shipping. The deal said the lens wouldn't be available until March 28th but it will still get to me by Tuesday.

I just noticed that Tuesday is April Fool's Day. I'm hoping this isn't an omen. <eg> (evil grin)

Thanks Phoenix. I'm waiting for it to be around the 550 range. Hopefully when I have a relative going Stateside. :-D

^ beautiful shot, 2cruise!!

Here's a reworking of my son's shot - better crop and desaturated his jacket a bit so that it wasn't as distracting. Let me know how it looks:

6D, 35/2 IS, natural light.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I'm semi-excited. My 35 already shipped and gets here tomorrow... the semi comes from two things: UPS doesn't deliver at our house until late in the day (sometimes as late as 9PM if the work load is heavy) and I work weekends plus Mondays.

I won't be able to get to put it through its paces until Monday night or Tuesday. I am asleep by 8PM on work nights.

That said, I am excited about getting used to the 35 f/2 IS before we pick up our kitten in a month or so.

Hello,

please let me first introduce to you because it´s my first posting here.

My name is Christoph and i am living in Austria.
Love the DSLR Photography since my daughter was born 7 years ago.

I use a 7D an as backup sometimes a 40D (which is also often used by my daughter :) )

At the moment i am searching for a new prime. I do use Canon 28 2.8 and 50 1.8 II and a not very good running Sigma 30mm 1.4 (The Focus is realy bad)

I love the focal length around 30mm, therefore i am at the moment on the search for a new prime.

Can someone, because i fell in Love with the pictures of the 35mm 1.4 L, tell me,
if the 35mm 2.0 IS USM realy is a good alternative?
Do you think the bokeh is as good as from the "L"? (Take 90% of my pictures at the lowest aperture the lens can deliver)

I don´t trust pictures on the web, the 2.0 looks faboulos too, but if someone has booth lenses, what would you mean? Can the 2.0 replace the 1.4?

Price is of course a "PRO" for the 2.0 but if there are further points, the 2.0 could make it into my bag.

Sorry for my english if you don´t unterstand it - if you need further information on my questions, please let me know.

Thanks a lot.

Greeting form Austria

Z

^^^^ Welcome.

I don't yet own the 35 f/2IS, but I owned the 35L for quite some time. IMO, the bokeh that I've seen from the f/2 is better/smoother than what I got with the 35L. As far as 2.0 w/IS vs 1.4 without... that depends - the ability to get sharp images at 1/4 sec doesn't mean much if your subjects are moving too much.

To throw in my 2 cents on a related note... I'm sure that some will disagree with me, but I personally don't see the rationale of spending money on a wide & fast prime in the elite price category if it's going to be used on a crop body. I'd rather have a FF body and a prime in the secondary price tier.

Bill is my name - I'm the most wanted man on my island, except I'm not on my island, of course. More's the pity.

I think it looks fine (saturation) Scrum but a little tighter crop would help.

For those of you in this thread trying to decide to get this lens or not, this image should be enough reason to go and buy it straight away! Great work 2cruise!
