Quick edits for the local newspaper. C&C Appreciated.

This is a little off topic and has nothing to do with any of the images submitted, but I wanted to share this story.

The best game of the evening was the girls JV game. Andover is a very competitive team and has really good talent across the board from freshman/C team all the way up to varsity both boys and girls.

The girls JV had 3 players foul out of the game with 3 minutes left to play. The other girls that were on the bench could not come in the game because they had already maxed out on the allowable 6 quarters of playing time. This left the Hornets with 3 players on the court to play against the full strength Andover team with subs on the bench if needed. The three Valley Center girls 2 freshman (one of them being my daughter) and one sophomore played their hearts out and won the 3 v 5 game.

Not only did the 3 ladies play great defense they were also able to get the ball up the court and score even though the 5 from the opposing team were full court pressing on every inbound ball. One of the officials called a jump ball against one of our girls who felt she was fouled. Our girl disagreed with the official and he called a technical foul against us keeping in mind we were down 2 players and the game was very tight.

The student section for the JV Girls game was in my opinion better than the student section for any of the varsity games I have seen at VCHS. The Hornet varsity girls that were seated in the stands watching and supporting their teammates and the remainder of team that had fouled out or were not eligible to play rushed out to great the 3 ladies that dug deep to get the win for their team. There was a lot of talk on Twitter between teammates on how well these 3 ladies performed. What a positive evening for the Valley Center Girls Basketball program.

Thanks for letting me bend your ear, and don't forget to C&C on the images below.

Great stuff as usual from you man. Could be my monitor here (work) but I think you could use another 1/3 to 2/3 on the strobed stuff. Its clean and the action looks great, just a touch under from where I am sitting.

Mark, like the personal story about the JV game. (Proud father, for sure!) Brings new meaning to the "triangle offense". Defensive wise, I have seen the Box & 1, the Diamond & 1, even the T & 1, not to mention the Diamond & 2,.....but..... the "Diamond & 0" is cutting edge! Congrats to those VC girls and their coaches. IMHO, I like the "strobe shots" a bit more.

I hold Scott's critiques with great respect. On my monitor, maybe photo #3 is a bit underexposed, but I do like the fall-off in #2 & #4 for sure.

Great photos. Better story, thanks for sharing. I really appreciate good photographers showing us what can be done at ISO 6400.

My shots will never compare to these but photos like yours encouraged me to try high ISO at our high school basketball games. The resulting photos are okay for posting on social media. I was amazed at the quality of the 4 X 6 prints. The players, parents and especially the grandparents really appreciate the photos.

Again, thanks for sharing!
