Jan 07, 2006 16:33 | #10 I apologize, I'm still learning about this SLR stuff...Why does the 1.8 make it good in low light. I mean, I've been playing around with the settings on my XT, and if I shoot in Av mode, this lens is great. I hate the flash. I'm getting better though. Check out my flickr. EOS R, RF50L , RF28-70L, 5D Mark IV, 16-35LII, 70-200 2.8L II, 24-70 2.8L II, 100-400L II, 600ex-RT

I mean, I've been playing around with the settings on my XT, and if I shoot in Av mode, this lens is great. The smaller the numerical value of the "f" number, the wider the aperture. This allows more light to come into the camera, and you need lots of light to record an image in dimly lit settings. Additionally, if you increase the ISO while shooting with a low aperture number (meaning wide aperture, called "shooting wide open"), you will be able to shoot in lower light. And if you shoot wide open in Av like this, your shutter will be faster. The three things (i.e. ISO, aperture, and shutter) are all connected. Understanding this will help you make better photographs.

Now, in one of the pictures above, someone said the eyes had been "fixed' or photoshopped. How do you do that? You really ought to buy one of Scott Kelby's Photoshop books for more information on that particular topic. He lays things out step by step for the beginner.
