Today I have arranged to meet someone off CL to buy a used 60d. Any tips on what I should look for...other than a typical walk through of functions?

BTW...it's $650 for body and 18-135 IS lens. Not too shabby IMO.

TIA.

meet in a public place, take pics and view them large on your laptop, get a shutter count, make sure SD card, battery, and lens removal is smooth.

Meeting in a public place. Check

Bring laptop...great idea! I had asked for a shutter count but the person had trouble finding an app to work. I have one so I can check. :)

Also good ideas on the lens,SD card, and battery removal.

Another question: What is a reasonable shutter count for a casual user? I see it is rated for 150k.

For reference: I have an XSI that I've had for about 4 years and it has 11,500 clicks.

The 60d is rated 100k.........I would say for the price you said, under 10,000......buy I would say a casual user would actully be under 5k....

I'm sorry...I wasn't clear. I, the purchaser, am a casual user. The seller has used it primarily for video and as a secondary camera.

So if it's say, 30K for shutter count. What would be a fair price, in your opinion?

some of the older 60Ds had issues with peeling grips. I'd take a close look at that as well.

Hmmm, casual shooters usually don't have secondary cameras:rolleyes:

I will just say the camera has been out around two years, the ones I see on this forum for sale seem to have 3-5k......

There is nothing wrong with 30k, but I would not buy it....seems like a decent price, me personally , would spend a few more dollars for a like new one....but I am obsessive about stuff.....

I would take a look, see what it is....you can always walk away and think about it.....there are plenty for sale.

LOL...I am so sorry for the confusion...I am the casual shooter. You are right, though. I can always walk away. Thanks

I trust to much in people.. a bit naive.
I rarely buy anything used, if i do.. it's from a friend or a friends friend... but strangers, they probably ripp me off.
But if i would check for something it would be dents, scratches, battery hatchet, viewfinder, tilt-screen and take a few shots to see if they turn out nice.

the 60D was recently selling on the Canon site and CLP for $640 so a used model would be ..... say 20 - 30% discounted ?

Heck you can get a new one for $699 (admittedly no lens though), maybe it's just me but I don't really like to buy used camera bodies.

This is what I find: refurbished 60d from canon: $800 http://shop.usa.canon.com …gory_10051_10051_-1_29252 (external link)

New body from canon $800: http://www.usa.canon.com …meras/slr_cameras/eos_60d (external link)

Amazon: from $800 used http://www.amazon.com …51990&sr=8-2&keywords=60d (external link)

If I can buy new somewhere for the $650, the obviously I'd do that!
