Anybody had experience with the Cambron lenses. They are priced very well, do they perform even mediocre?

Cambridge, its a big photography online retailer, they've been around a long time, I remmeber ordering from them back in the 80's through their catalog. But I have never used there lenses. Check it out, the lens prices are sweet, but if they are crap then forget it.

They're pretty much in the Quantaray/Spiratone category. They buy the stuff elsewhere from the lowest bidder and have such gems as the mega-zoom Phil tried a while ago (was it an 850-1600 f/11 T-Mount?) and the like. Actually more on the Spiratone line - all sorts of gadgets that at least sound realy neat.

The french General Cambronne (at the battle of Waterloo, 1815) gained a famous reputation for having answered the english ennemies with a single brutal word to their proposal of surrendering.
Maybe it's also the most appropriate word to qualify these lenses quality?

Cambron was the house brand of Cambridge Camera. Cambridge has had a lot of trouble with their reputation, if you know what I mean, and buying anything from them requires a bit of bravery. The Cambron name was something they came up with to compete against Spiratone. They never attained the cult following that the Spiratone stuff did, even though back in the day nobody had much respect for either one unless it solved a particular problem and that was all the money they had.

There was little if any quality control and even less service after the sale, by most accounts. I would only buy someting with that brand on it if I could inspect it first and if it was so inexpensive as to be in the worthless toy category.

Hey, I like that "sneaky pete" around-the-corner lens attachment . . . .

Way cool!
