I have a Lowepro AW bag for carrying all my gear. We will be hiking overnight in the jungle in Costa Rica. Even though its the dry season, I was wondering if I needed something to put the camera/lens maybe the entire Lowepro bag in overnight or will the LowePro bag be enough. I'm just worried about the sitting in rain overnight while camping. Is there a drybag or another option that anyone can recommend? I assume that while hiking if it starts pouring, and I use the AW cover that will suffice. Is that a correct assumption?

I've never been in a tropical Jungle, but we do get some good rains here, and I have
the LowePro DryZone 200 Backpack, and it has a water proof housing around it that
zips up like a Divers Dry Suit and seals the bag 100%. You can toss it in the water
and it won't leak, assuming you've got it sealed. I keep a couple packages of the
Silica Crystals in the bottom of the bag to keep the moisture down, when I seal it
and to date I've never had anything inside it get wet. Me on the other hand, have
been like a wet rat, soaked thru to the skin when caught out, while walking around
with the camera.

Currently, LowPro only seems to have the DryZone 200 in a funky yellow and black
color, they still show the nice grey/black version on their website, but nobody seems
to have it. And they don't seem to be very interested in answering my e-mails as
to where I might find a second one. There seems to be a few places that still have
one, but they want 2 arms and a leg for them. So I will continue on, with the one
I currently have.

I live in the jungle (Well, almost. It's only a block or two away) and travel to other islands. If I'm going to be out in the rain I just put my lenses and cameras in plastic bags inside my Tamrac backpack, the backpack itself will shed most of the rain. But if you've ever been in a tropical downpour, you'll want a little extra protection. Wrapping your stuff in baggies might be a good idea just to keep the bugs out if your're going to be overnighting in the jungle. Have fun.
