If Dell checked the content and the OP is not lying then the shipping company is the culprit?

If that's the case and no one else got a hand on the package before the shipping company, what else can we say? What I was trying to say was, even if Dell checked the content first, they couldn't just go to authority and accuse the OP of stealing. That's all.

Even if Dell wants to investigate this matter seriously (and I believe they should) and if they find that the OP is the culprit, nothing else can be done, except that he'll be in Dell's blacklist. To be honest, if the OP is a scammer and I'm Dell, he's the last thing I'd be worried about. Instead, I'd be more concerned if my distributor is indeed compromised or the carrier that I regularly use is. Why? If the OP is the scammer, it's just an isolated case that can be cut down by just not dealing with him anymore. For something else, it could happen again and I'll never know until I find the root of the problem.

Bottom line from me is, except saying that I'm sorry for the OP if his story is true, nothing else can be concluded out of it.

Hope this makes sense.

I'm gonna take a stab that Dell shipped a returned item and the prior buyer is the real scammer. Dell shouldn't be selling returned items, at least not without thorough inspection, but it's possible.

If I were Dell; I'd be fingerprinting the contents.

Return-for-refund of a brick in a box is exactly why I'm not selling my lenses except in-person.

However, he got wood TWICE! That cannot be a coincidence where 2 guys returned 5dMKIIIs to Dell and with wood and that both the times, the OP was the one to get that particular returned camera with wood.

It is kind of strange that this is the only time we've heard about this and it happened twice to the same person. One would have to assume that more people have been affected but don't use a forum to complain about it. If this is an isolated incident then Dell should be concerned about this customer (OP) but if more customers have complained about this (and we haven't heard about them) then Dell needs to look into the matter internally.

The poor OP is pining over his wooden camera while you guys are a bunch of cut ups with warped senses of humor. And, my level of incense grew when I saw how this thread has sprouted more bad wood puns than you can shake a stick at ... and I do knot intend participate in such nonsense. I am just hoping that this does knot lead to splinter threads. The OP got screwed and deserves a purpleheart for all the times that he has been hammered, cut down, and chopped up.

Thank you for using proper English (the subjunctive form has been neglected by a lot of people). :)

Not sure about the percentage of people here who know Manti Te'o, let alone the hoax involving him. :)

Is there anyone here who hasn't heard at least a snippet of the Te'o hoax?

I have a bunch of friends who are and are not on this site who don't care much about football, let alone college football. As much as he's well known to us those follow, he doesn't make that much impact enough to be widely well known. And then, international level. :)

BTW, he's still denying that he's never been part of those who created the hoax, isn't he?

Yes and while she went on to imaginary heaven, everyone else in the USA who turns on either the tv, radio or gets on the internet has to go through real hell to avoid hearing about the story 24/7.
