Packing for airline question- Help needed

Later this year I am going to be flying to Fort Myers Fla. I want to take my Canon 50-D
Canon IS L Series 28-135 IS Macro and 70-200 lenses. Problem is I have never flown with my camera equipment and do not have a clue as what I need to do with it as far as packing and what to be aware of regarding X-Ray ect.

Sure would appreciate also any advice and suggestions regarding where to go near Port Charlotte for wildlife photos.

Do you have a backpack or hard sided case that you use to transport it? If so, measure it for carry-on and keep it with you. Xray isn't much of an issues as far as I know.

Thanks for the reply and yes I do have a OnePolar photography backpack which has soft padding. Guess to bolster that I could wrap a bit of bubble wrap around the camera and lenses.
Regarding the Xray somewhere I heard it plays havoc with your memory cards if exposed to the machine. As I said I am new to this and trying to avoid problems before they occur. Again that may be a fallacy I do not know.

I have done a lot of flights and always used the back pack (no extra padding) and never had a problem.
Some long distance flights (changing aircraft) have had me going through security 4-5 times, again no problems.

This is my experience as well. Have a great trip.

I've traveled all over with all kinds of camera equipment and all kinds of memory cards. They all went through the x-ray. They always came out fine. Now FILM cameras are a different story.

Folks, you have no idea how much I appreciate your input. This trip has been a long time coming and the last thing I needed was problems.
Much rather spend my time chasing snook and redfish and photographing Florida wildlife.

Have fun on Sanibel and Captiva islands. Good shelling and birding down at Ding Darling Refuge.
