I'm in the process of converting from an HTML4 website to a WordPress site.

The building of the site is simple enough, but I'm distressed by how slow WordPress itself functions. Part of the problem is that I actually have to be online and interacting with the host server (which is not necessary with a "regular" website that I can build totally on my own computer and then upload when finished).

But just moving from one function to another in WordPress takes half a minute or more every time. Switching from one page to another takes half a minute to leave that page when clicking on "Pages," then another half a minute to go to the page selected from the "Pages" display.

It's easy, but it's insanely slow. And that's with access from three different computers on my part.

Or is it just me?

Well, yea... if you are used to working on your site on your local machine then uploading those files to your site, then using wordpress will be different just because it's a "hosted" platform. The tradeoff is going to me that you can access your wordpress (and website content) from anywhere.

Are you talking about the pages inside wordpress dashboard (logged in as admin)? Or are you talking about when you are just looking through your wordpress web site?

If WP dashboard, it shouldn't THAT slow. If web site, it could be slow depending on what plugins you are running (maybe a script slowing down your browser) or what content you are showing (ton of large photos on a single page could take a long time to load).

I'm talking about moving from function to function on the dashboard.

Hmm, weird.

I'm going to PM you a test WP instance to see if it's you.

I've recently converted my site to using WP. I don't have these issues at all. I have to assume that this is due to a connection issue - either yours or your hosting providers.

alpha provided me with a test installation that proved it was my hosting provider--GoDaddy. Checking further into it, I saw that while my problem was not prevalent with GoDaddy, it was not by any means unique.

I changed to BlueHost, which has solved the problem.
