Im using a t4i w/ 18-55 and 75-300

Question is, what settings are best to achieve a picture making the train to appear "continuous" instead of individual box cars?

i saw a thread a few nights ago with this done, but dont remember how this was done

Thanks

Do you mean blurring the train using motion. If so you need a slow shutter speed with the camera set on a tripod. Your ability to do this depends on the lighting conditions but start at 1/2 a second and then adjust to get the precise amount of motion you want.

keep in mind to get a shutter speed that low you might have to go with a much lower ISO and smaller aperture than you might think. Its not a shot you can do mid day. The shutter speed you need to achieve that blur also depends on how fast the train is moving. If you are on a high speed stretch you might be able to do it as 1/8..
