John, these are great shots, and my only criticism is that they are a wee bit too saturated. I must admit that I didn't bother to photograph the powder magazine - so perhaps I should pay another visit!

Balliolman, I mentioned in my thread (https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=125673) that the factory closed in 1954 after 150 years of operation.

Balliolman,
It was started in 1804 and for 150 years produced most of Scotlands gunpowder till 1954.
It mostly produced gunpowder and explosives for coal mines etc but also made a lot of bombs for the military and was the main supplier for canon gunpowder.

You seem to know a lot more about the place than me - but then again that wouldn't be hard. We could perhaps meet up for our next visit?

I'm unfortunately back at work on monday too:( and given the short daylight at this time of year, it would have to be a weekend.

I didn't even know that there was a tunnel, and would it not be locked anyway?

Did you take any photos of the weir at all?

Good series of photos - will have to go and have a look for myself I think next time we are up there.

Would the gunpowder mill be near Roslin Chapel by any chance (or Rosslyn Chapel) ?

They are within a mile or so of each other although you would be quicker getting between the two by car.
