Yes, I have found a solution to make DLO work with non compatible lenses and even with NON CANON lenses !

I'm not sure if I should publish the method, as I'm afraid that Canon will change the code of DLO to make the method not working anymore with non canon lenses. What do you think ?

Here are some test shots. At left without DLO and at right with DLO.

First lens : Tamron 28-75

What do I think?

Right now, one of my major considerations at choosing a lens to make a shot is whether i will be able to use DLO on the images when I process them. Several of my Canon lenses ( i.e. 24 f/2.8 and 85 f/1.8) and both my Sigmas are not currently supported. In addition, my Kenko TC cannot be used if I want to use DLO in processing.

I would welcome the chance to use it with more lenses, especially my Sigma 8-16 ...

I think DLO has not received the attention it deserves; if you were comparing two different lenses, and one produced the images that are not processed with DLO and the other produced the images that are processed by DLO, you wouldn't hesitate to say which was the one to buy!

It is grayed because your lens (18-55mm 1.8) is not compatible with DLO.
That's whay I'm talking about a particular method to make DLO work with it even if it is not compatible.

Can you send me some raw files taken with your non compatible lenses ? I'll try and let you know if it works.

Yes I agree, especially since I know that it's possible, after converting to tif or jpeg, to disable it, so as to come back to the initial raw file size (the fact it doubles the raw file size was, for me, the main drawback of it).

Good news for you. I have found a sample raw file of the 85mm f/1.8 lens and I can confirm that the method works well with this lens (may be too much here as I did choose the maximum value (100) for the setting parameter).
Here are the tests.

Excellent!!!

Do you still need raw files taken with the Sigma lenses (and the Canon 24 f/2.8)?

Yes and even the 85 because the sample I have has no details in the corners at all.

I do not really use DPP with this feature very often, but what exactly does DLO do that permits it to be used outside of supported lens/body combinations? My limited understanding is that it corrects sharpness of a particular lens at a particular aperture across the field - does this require a specific profile (hence the "supported" lens concept)? How can this data or profile be applied to lenses that are not profiled and may exhibit different sharpness variations across their field?

I suppose it is one thing to "trick" DPP into applying some correction to raw data, it's another thing to get it to adapt its profile to a non-supported lens in a "correct" way.

Forgive my ignorance, I may be way overthinking this and probably do not understand just what DLO does.

Forge onward!
