Hellooo!

A bit late as these were actually taken on a Christmas Day walk with my Mum and her partner near their new house up in Cumbria ...

We wandered up Rannadale Knots and into the cloud covering Whiteless Pike, both near to Buttermere and Crummock ... it was a very cloudy day, with only a few vain attempts from the sun to break through, thus I decided I'd make a rare foray into Black and White.

Crummock Water ...

I couldn't carry my tripod over from Spain due to weight restrictions so this was taken using a rock solid alternative in the gulley back down the side of Rannadale Knots ...

More can be found on Flickr, but I think I've probably chosen the best ones to post here, so it's probably a case of diminishing returns if you do decide to invest time in looking at them ...

Yours, Photography's Answer to Eeyore,

Owain.

Nice way to salvage what looks like a cold and dreary day. I really like #5 as the compsition is excellent and the rocks/ridges provide great contrast.

If that's your Mum, you must still be in elementary school.

Thanks.

Buttermere is just the name of a mountain and the adjacent lake ... Cumbria is filled with places with interesting names, probably even more interesting to someone who isn't British. This, for once, is not related to tea/baked products consumed with tea ...

Thank you. I knew when we set off that Black and White would probably be the best way to get something from the dreariness of the day ..

I think #5 is probably the best landscape of the lot, I was struggling for foreground interest a lot of the time ...

I'll pass on the compliment, as I've been out of University for a couple of years now, and my Mum certainly wasn't 'tabloid newspaper sensation' young when I was born ...

Tone of the photos give a great sense of the mood of the place.

Thanks a lot! I was shooting them with B&W in mind, really, but they are still conversions by nature ... it was one of those B&W days. Glad you like them!

Thanks a lot as well. I'd love to be in the Lake District with better weather to attempt some colour work, but I thought B&W carried the feeling of the day quite well ...
