should i get a new lens calibrated??

hi everyone! i have a 50D body & ive just purchased a 70-200 f2.8l usm lens (non is) and was wondering should i have the lens & camera calibrated? or should i maybe try to use the lens micro adjustment in camera?? any advice would be very helpfull.

I would start with the micro adjustment first, if you need more adjustment than your camera can handle then you might want to send it in.

Why do you think it needs calibrating? Do you have a probelm with the images it produces?

No, with MFA the only reason to send in a lens anymore is if it falls out of the range of MFA, or at least out of your personal "what is acceptable" range. Gor me thats +/-15. A lend requiring an adjustment of more than +/-15 goes back to Canon. So far I have not had one that far off.

exactly, don't bother if it doesn't have any issues.

i would start by taking pictures...if you have a problem, then decide what to do...

Exactly. Use the lens and see how the focus turns out in the photos before you get into service for an item that may very well not need service.
