Finally my wait of nearly 7 years was over today. That was the last time that there was a Great Grey Owl irruption in Ottawa. I don't know if they will stay around but there are a few here now.

I was trying to get this Great Grey Owl in flight when it quickly turned around and dove down into the snow. Unfortunately it didn't find the wild mouse or vole it must have heard and just as unfortunate for me I didn't get this beautiful bird fully in the frame.
I still like the pose however since it's my first Great Grey Owl in flight.

Awesome shot, Stephen, you still did get him in a great midair pose.

Nice capture Stephen!

I think the eye tells the story. True, getting the wing tips would have been nice but capturing the eye adds to the drama. You can tell he/she is concentrating hard on something. Had it been looking further down where the eye was not in the picture it would just be a picture of feathers.

I'm still waiting for my first owl shot.

Congratulations Stephen, a wonderful capture. The tight framing works for me with the dynamic movement of the birds wings.

I agree with mak. The llowl looking st something adds a dramatic effect that really makes the photo.
Great job

Regardless of the wing clip this is a great shot Stephen. Very interesting pose with a very candid feel. Great work. Wow, that look means business.
