I had a family shoot today and I knew that the Son played the trombone so I thought it might be fun to try and do a composite portrait. My porblem is that I do not have all my lighting equipment with me just a few small flashes. I had seen a product called saberstrip that I thought would work for this shot (I would love to have had some strip light softboxes). I just didn't want to pay the $135 a piece for them. So I decided I would make my own. I posted about it on my blog (external link). The total cost was $14 but the real question was how would they work. I still need to work on the ratio's as the main light I have is 400 watt secs. and the two small flashes can't really compete with that. I turned my main light all the way down but it was still a bit strong so i backed it way off to help control it a bit more I just fell I lost a little in the eyes. Anyway here is the composite. I also uploaded the original file. I knew I was going to composite it and didn't have a white seemless so I just threw up an old sheet over my muslin backdrop for the shot.
