How many plates for RRS L-bracket?

I finally have 2 RRS L-brackets (B5D2) and pretty confused when it comes to the plates needed for these brackets. It seems everything is custom made for each camera model. But, if that is the case why is no one selling the plates with the L-plates?

Do I need 2 plates for each camera (one for portrait, one for landscape)? Do I need anything else to connect the RRS L-plate to a RRS quick release clamp?

These things are not cheap, so I want to make sure I am buying the correct product / quantity.

Also, I am wondering if the Manfrotto 488RC2 quick release clamp can be removed to accept an RRS QR clamp?

Thank you for any help.

The plates are built in the L-bracket, nothing else to buy.

So I do not need any of the plates below? I do not see how the RRS L bracket would connect to a RRS quick release clamp without it. And that is the piece I speak of that no one is selling with the B5D2 L plates considering they are specific for B5D2 L plate. Or perhaps they are not needed as you mentioned.

See the groove below? It's the dovetail edge, arca-swiss standard. Google it :) No need for additional plates!

This photo sort of shows how the L-plate works. You have two areas where the grooves are located to attach to an Arca type plate. I used the bottom of the L-plate to attach to the bracket on my tripod head and the side of the L-plate to attach a flash arm with a Kirk bracket.

All Arca-type plates and brackets are interchangeable, regardless of who makes them.

They should be, but are not. I tried to mix Markins plates with an RRS lever clamp to my cost. The screw tighten versions have more flexibility so should be OK, but I'd suggest that sticking to the same manufacturer would be a wise move.

I've heard that before, but only happens with lever clamps. However, my Markins lever clamp works well with my Markins plate, Kirk plate and RRS plate. I don't have to adjust anything. I think most manufacturers are trying to standardize the sizes as production runs are completed.

It also depends on the safety stops. My "arca compatible" ballhead doesn't have groves cut out for the RRS-style safety stops, but instead uses a Markins-style pin (except Markins also has the cut outs), so any plate with safety stops will not fit on mine unless you remove them.

The newest lever clamps (Markins, RRS and Arcatech) all allow you to make adjustments to fit others plates. the only thing they advise is sticking to one manufacturers plates, becasue the adjustment takes a bit of time and you probably don't want to have something accidentally fall out. Once you have it to fit someone's plates though you are fine.

LOL, can you imagine having to buy 2 QR plates for each of your 2 L plates?:cry::-D

I don't think anyone would recommend them if that was the case.

i think RRS and wimberly are to the same spec. the others will usually work but the fit isn't perfect.

Arca swiss platform, Kirkphoto, RRS, Wimberly and many other work with each other. Yes RRS and Wimberly will work together.
