How many plates for RRS L-bracket?

Depends on the size of the tablet and the amount of resistance on the tablet, but an average tablet (iPad Mini size) and under normal conditions, I would think the clamp would be able to hold just fine. Consider mounting a generic flat Arca Swiss type plate with heavy-duty double-sided tape to the back of the tablet and you should be fine.
