OK, I did a search and did not find any threads like this. If there is one, then Mods, feel free to delete this thread.

Basically, if you use your Camera User Settings (C1, C2, C3) how do you have them set and what do you normally shoot?

Personally, I have only experimented with these one time on my 5D Mark II and don't remember what the settings are off the top of my head.

I shoot weddings and portraits so I guess I would set one for indoor, one for outdoor and the other for indoor very low light.

I've gotten so use to finding the exposure I need either in Manual or in Av mode.

I'd love to give these settings a try and see what comes of it.

I also have a 40D that I use as an everyday shooter and would probably set those differently than the 5D Mark II.

I had C1 set to switch back from back-button focus to regular 1/2 press, and a few other minor things. Never really used the other two.

5D3 is still in transit, but I imagine I'll first try using a couple of them for configuring a few different case-specific AI Servo configurations, maybe set the last one up for an Auto ISO setup.

There are I don't know how many threads about this. But they are more or less all worthless, since it's 100% up to each individual what you want to store.
The only general advice would be for you to consider if you in a regular fashion shoot things that require a certain setup, and then store that. The more different this setup is from your normal setup, the more there is to gain.

Well, I've seen them for specific cameras (40D, 5D Mark II, etc) but not a general discussion on them.

Although for the 1D may be some help at http://blog.martinbaileyphotography.com …custom-function-settings/ (external link). However, as apersson850 said, its a matter of personal choice based on what you shoot. You may like some good Georgia moonshine, I like Scotch. No sense arguing about it!

I don't have any difference in the custom functions, jsut standard stuff on the 5D2

C3 - indoor photos - Av mode with, +1 exp comp +1 flash exp comp, cause the 5D2 seems to underexpose in low light
C2 - outdoor photos - as above but no exp comp
C1 - as above, but manual mode, cause it's nice to be able to flick from C2 (Av) into manual mode from time to time, but canon doesn't give you a way to do that, via the quick menu, even though they could. grrr.

All the stuff I've owned at one time or another

Don't forget about the trick where you use Av Tv and M and extra remembered settings. Say you are doing a shoot where the light changes and you need to flick between 2 ISOs all the time, stick the most common one in one of the C settings and stick the other into one of Av, Tv or M then just flick back and forth. Very useful.

I'm a natural born northern boy transplanted in the south. So Bacardi and Coke is good for me. No need to completely shut down the old liver functions with that 200 proof Moonshine. My father-in-law brought that stuff to my wedding reception... WHEW!!!! I felt one cap full go all the way down to my liver.
