I know I need a wider lens, a 17-40L is the absolute next thing I buy for my gearbag.

those look good for first rig shots, keep at it, it only gets better. Those pics remind me of my first experiments with my car rig

thank you all!

Photosguy, I've been learning quite a bit from your site slowly over the last several months, thank you for your hard work and making that available!

AEMravan, do you have a website or samples of your work? I always like looking at rig shots (along with many other types of photos) to learn what i can.

Nice work, you would never have guessed they were your first try if you had not said so!

Nice work, my only advice is to not crop some of them so tightly and to punch them up a little bit and try to fix the white balance.

thank you! i have been lurking in the "DIY rigs" thread for quite a while, learning as much as possible about it before i could afford the rig and a camera/lens wide enough to utilize it.

it depends on the background. the mustang was incredibly easy since the background is so even, but textured, in-focus backgrounds is where it gets interesting. i will NEVER shoot against a brick wall again like I did with the 350Z. that was my first shoot after my truck test-shot and was an absolute pain. getting the flares right on the civic shot was also difficult.

haha thank you, but i didnt crop any of these, in fact, I pulled out and added more background in photoshop in a couple. my widest lens is a 28-135, and my boom is only so long. I'm trying to save up for a 17-40L though. as for the white balance, if you are referring to the one with the orange civic, i chose a poor location. the car was lit by cool white light with bright orange high-pressure sodium lights in the background, not a good combination. I also REALLY need to calibrate my monitor, the colors are a little bit off.
