I have done some new tests with my tamron 28-75 at wide aperture 2.8 and using the Canon 28-200mm profil in DLO and I'm really impressed by the DLO performance especially in the corners. See :

At left without DLO. At right with DLO.

Sharpness=0

What is incredible is that even if I push the sharpness to the max (10) in the non DLO version and keep the DLO version at 0, the DLO version still shows more details !

and finally sharpness at 3 for both

Imagine how much more would the lens cost if it was optically corrected to that level... :D

I see you got some noise increase. With my 85/1.8 (faked into an 85/1.2LI) I get less noise increase than that, with the 28/1.8 (supported) substantially more.

EDIT: Just tested the 70-200/4 IS (supported) for noise. No increase at all!
It would seem that softer lenses, on which DLO applies a stronger correction, also get more noise increase.

This is the 70-200/4 IS, 100% crop, bottom border center (FF), both sharpened to 4 (for comparison sake). DLO on right.

Dynamic Lens Optimisation ..... A facility that exists in Canon's DPP software for correcting lens abberations. This is tailored for each lens and at present is only available for a limited number of Canon's own lenses.

In the last six months the number of lenses, supported by DLO, has grown from 29 to 63 (including combinations with telextenders).

And, it should be noted that this is DPP-only if you are working with a Raw workflow, but like other DPP functions you can convert to a tiff/jpeg so that your adjustments will be applied and "seen" by other software.

Close but it's Digital Lens Optimizer.

Yes, you are correct. (although I fail to understand how a lens can be digital :confused: )

My experience with DLO has had rather a mixed degree of success.
I have found it to be good when working with low ISO images, but with high ISO noisy images I find that it applies sharpening too early in the processing and I prefer sharpening to be done at a later stage especially when the image is to be reduced in size.

That is what I meant to say, with DLO, without DLO.

Btw, I played around with DLO yesterday using my Tamron 17-50mm lens. DLO feature was disabled at first. When I clicked Update button, one of Canon lens in the list was in bold font (I can't remember which one at the moment). I supposed that is the suggested lens DLO profile to download so I installed that. DLO feature got enabled after installing the new lens profile. I didn't have to go through editing EXIF to trick DLO into thinking that it is a Canon lens.

Really ??? That's strange. I would have thought that Canon would never make profiles for third-party lenses... This is really strange but great for non canon lenses owners ;)
