Just received my new Canon 85mm 1.8

not surprising, its a prime, stopped down, the tamron isnt, which tends to be a bit soft wide open.. shoot both at f4 or 5.6 and they will be a little closer, the 85 is a great sharp lens.

That second shot doesn't just look soft, it looks OOF to me.

But yes for a fair comparison you should be stopping down the Tamron to f/4 at least.

So can I ask what point of this thread was/is? Are you just comparing the 2 lenses?

No point, just excited about my new lens. I wanted to see the difference the prime would make over my zoom for myself and decided to post it.

Ah! I see! I agree though that it's a little unfair to compare a prime stopped down to a zoom wide open. That being said that 85 looks sharp enough to cut yourself on. Has me thinking about ditching my 50 for an 85.
