Well I just found this site not long ago but I shoot High School and College BB games with a T3 and T3i with an 50mm 1.8. Most gyms I am shooting at ISO 800 with a 250 shutter speed and around a 2.2 fstop.
If I had to do it over again I would pass on the T3 and gone straight to the T3i. I like the flip view which helps getting some low angle shots when shooting free throws. I do have a issue with focus sometimes but I need to play with them both so can't really say if its the lens or my settings. Hopes that helps.

What does everyone use to limit the noise. I've been shooting with a T1i, Tamron 28-75/2.8, 50mm/1.8 and 70-200/2.8 and felt 1600 was pushing it on the T1i. I also got the 40/2.8 because I liked the pancake for walkaround and it's IQ is excellent. I recently picked up a 7D used. It looks like I can push it to 3200. At 6400 I feel like the shots are too noisy SOC. I haven't dont' much NR in DPP with the 7D shots yet.

7d | T1i | Gripped | 70-200 2.8 mk1 | 40 2.8 |Tammy 28-75 2.8 | 530exii
I welcome C & C as it's on of the biggest ways I'll improve.

I recommend giving Noiseware a try. The trial is free. They have plugin versions and a stand alone version (only $30). http://imagenomic.com …ad.aspx?product=noiseware (external link)

You should have no problem with noise reduction at ISO 6400 from the 7D, ISO 1600 is never a concern. I shoot a 50D and edit in Lightroom. Shots are overexposed 1/3 to 1 stop. It's that ETTR thing. Shoot in RAW and don't crop heavily. I spent several hours searching the internet for information concerning high ISO photo editing. No one site gave instructions that worked on images taken at our high school. A lot of trial and error and then some more tweaking worked wonders. Settings required at a grade school gym were much different so I will not give the settings I used, different lighting - different settings. Don't expect to have high ISO photos compare with those shot at 100 when viewed on a large monitor. Prints at 4 X 6 can be amazingly good with no visible noise. Look at You Tube for some good videos.
