Hi, just built out a new PC for Lightroom/Photoshop editing. I'm currently using the onboard video (Asus P8Z77-V LX mobo).

I'm probably going to go to 2 monitors soon, and will be looking into getting an add on video card. Any recommendations on low end cards? This machine will not be used for gaming or video editing.

Do a search for a nVidia card at Newegg.com in your price range and pick one with good/high reviews.

Whats wrong with using the current video outputs from the on board video?

I have a similar spec Gigabyte board that I use to drive two 24" Dell's using the DVI and VGA connections on the board.

You wouldn't catch me using VGA as a connection with the quality of monitors being used today.

Adam, what is your budget?

As that particular board has both DVI-D and HDMI connections, it should be a problem. I run 3 monitors...one off of the MB and the other two off of an HD 6770.

I can't tell the difference if I connect my 2711 over display port or VGA, same with the 2410 sitting beside it.

The two 2412 I have running off DVI and VGA also look exactly the same once calibrated.

Didn't have a budget in mind ;). Picked this up:

http://microcenter.com …4MB_GDDR5_PCIe_Video_Card (external link)

Another reason for this is that I was having problems calibrating with Color Munki. Getting Unable to set LUTs errors which I think was related to the driver.

Thanks

Adam

My recommendation is this:

http://www.newegg.com …aspx?Item=N82E16814130835 (external link)

Will handle up to 4 monitors simultaneously. Two DVI, one HDMI and one Display Port. Yes, it will drive all four outputs (I'm doing exactly that.) A pair of cables will turn the DVI and HDMI ports into DVI connections at the monitor end if required.

If using calibrated displays (E.g. ColorMunki) you need to turn off LUTs in the program settings but this is true for ALL multi-monitor configurations off a single card.

It's EXTREMELY fast but reasonably priced and if you do any sort of video work most of the common NLEs can use the GPU for rendering acceleration as well.

Adam: On the ColorMunki "FILE" menu (top left) go into the preferences and uncheck the two boxes for DDC and LUT. Your problem will go away; ColorMunki will prompt you through the process of manually balancing brightness and contrast for each monitor, then perform its magic.

Thanks. Great tip. I actually bought the card I mentioned above along with a Dell U2410 monitor. All is good now.
