Last year I attended my first airshow in probably 15 years (Oregon Internation Airshow). I took the whole family, wife 8 year old daughter and wifes parents (former plane owners, they love airshows). We had a great time in the sun and got to see the Thunderbirds. Well this year the Blue Angels will be performing. So the wife gave the go ahead to attend again this year, but just the two of us, along with the ok to rent a 100-400 (only had my 55-250 last year, still got some great shots that are hanging on the walls at home).

While looking at that shows site I visited one of the performers page and found a link to other shows in Oregon. Found another (much smaller) show in Madres called Airshow of the Cascades. Its a much less expensive show to get into and only 5 hours and not 8am-7pm. So I send the wife a text about that one saying I am thinking of planning a day trip (2.5 hours from home). A few hours later it turned into a long camping weekend at a great lake 30min from the airport in Madres. Will have to stick with the 55-250 for this one however :( That is unless I fall madley in love with the 100-400 and figure out a way to buy it in the month between the two shows.

Sorry for my ramblings, I am just very excited and there still 7 months away :) I am very lucky to have a wife that grew up flying and loves planes and airshows.

So where are the images from it? ; )

Those smaller shows are great. You can usually get closer & sometimes they have a night show, too. Night Air Show - Alma, MI

Night Air Show, part #2. Aircraft & Fireworks... lotsa' fun?

I thought I put some up, will have to share when I get back home this evening :)

There is a dusk show on Friday, will start trying to talk my wife into going to that one as well as we get a bit closer. I am very excited because I have been wanting a bi-plane ride for as long as I can remember. And in Madres they will be doing rides ... so my chances are high for that as well :D feel like a kid in a candy store lol.

You maybe interested to know,if you have an iPhone or iPad, there is an app called SocialFlight. It's free. You put in some info and it will display local airports and any events they maybe having such as fly-ins.

Radial engines don't actually leak oil, by the way. They just mark their territory!

Congrats man. Airshows are a ton of fun. I was able to make it to the Houston Airshow last year and it was amazing.

Yup I forgot how much fun they were. My wife grew up going to airshows all the time. With dad having his own plane they would fly all over to see them. If only they still had their plane lol. They sold it as they got older b/c my wifes first husband hated the little planes. Man what I wouldnt give to have that oppertunity.
