Canon 28mm f/1.8 for Indoor portraits?

Hi guys, I went with a friend to a Hotel Room to shoot some pictures.

I right now only have the "Nifty Fifty" as prime lens, and I found the 50mm to be sometimes too long...

I generally planned to get a 50mm f1.4, but now I am more thinking of a 28mm 1.8...
But on all sites I checked, (the-digital-picture, and photozone.de) I see, the 28mm has terrible border resolution.

Now I am really wondering how good that lens really is, did any of you guys use this lens to make pictures of people? (Full body portraits, or so)?

Maybe even, do you guys have some samples?

(I know there is the 28mm 2.8 IS (for way more, than I am willing to pay), and the 35mm f/2, but I would be more interrested in this lens, thank you)

Oh, yes, I am using a Crop sensor.
Right now a 40D, plan to upgrade to a 7D in summer

I used the 28mm f/1.8 on a 7D before getting a full frame body, and thought it worked well for my indoor family get togethers. Here is an example:

I am in the same boat and im kinda leaning towards the sigma 30mm 1.4. B&H is very close to me so i guess it makes it a little less risky if it does have focus issues. I can always return for a replacement and if it doesnt work out i can go for the canon 28 1.8

For anything close to traditional framing anything that wide is going to give you perspective distortion for individual portraits. You can see the beginning of it in a couple of the shots from the link.

As long as you're using a crop sensor, 28 is the way to go. On FF, it begins to distort facial features because you have to get so close. In regards to the 28mm vs Sigma 30, I've went through 3 sigma 30s and would never waste my time/money/sanity on that lens ever again. Despite losing 2/3rds o a stop, the 28 outperformed all copies of the Sigma that I've owned. Good luck with whatever you choose!

I want to ask is where did you read about the Canon 28 f/1.8 IS? I can't find it anywhere.

As Rivas8409 said, I mentioned a 28mm 2.8 IS, but it costs almost 2x the prize of the 28 1.8, and is slower...
